Riad Al Badia: a charming and authentic riad in a real neighborhood in Marrakech

For the first night of my stay in Morocco this time around, I literally went the extra mile to Marrakech because I wanted to stay at the Riad Al Badia, a tiny wisp of an understated riad with lots of warmth and charm.

I’d discovered this riad last November, as we’d gone here for dinner, occupying the main dining room across the entrance and a small pool in shades of sea green.

A CHARMING RIAD IN MARRAKECH

We were enamoured with the food, and also by the riad itself which was really like someone’s lovely home, put together with lots of care.

On that first visit to have dinner at its restaurant, La Table du Al Badia, I was surprised to learn that there were also rooms to let for guests.

So this time around, when I had a free night to choose anywhere to stay in Morocco before my 35 friends arrived for two weeks of fun in the sun, I headed back to Marrakech and booked the Perle suite of the Riad Al Badia for a one-night stay and dinner on its charming rooftop.

GOING THE EXTRA MILE

It was quite a way to go for a stay, considering I had to be back in Casablanca airport early the next morning to meet and greet my friends arriving on flights from Asia.

But when we reached the Riad Al Badia and saw Laurent, the riad’s director, and his staff again, with their warm welcomes, I knew we had made the right decision.

THE PERLE SUITE

The Perle suite of the Al Badia was just what I wanted.

It’s simple and small by the standards of the luxurious riads of Marrakech, but it’s nicely done in good taste and spacious enough to relax in.

It has a sitting area and a large grey bathroom with charming intricate details like silver hammered containers for toiletries and black-and-white tiling.

Two windows overlooked the inner courtyard that was never noisy anyway; but when I closed these windows, I literally shut out the world and heard nothing, in spite of the fact that we were right in the bustling medina.

THE PERFECT SMALL RIAD
FOR A PRIVATE HIRE
IN MARRAKECH

This was a real riad in a real neighborhood, with all the comforts most travelers would want.

The Perle suite is the nicest room, but all together the Al Badia has six rooms, making it a very good option for families or friends traveling together, who want to hire a whole riad for themselves at a price that won’t break the bank.

I would recommend this riad happily to anyone looking for value accommodations in Marrakech.

The moment I put my bags down in the little sitting area of this suite, I felt right at home and so happy to be back in Marrakech, living a #Travelife.
