However, Spain is actually a residency-by-investment program. As such many of these consultants’ clients bought properties in Spain, expecting a passport in return — even though it will never come. They only learn later on that the process to qualify for Spanish citizenship actually takes years, aside from learning the language and passing a nationality exam.
