<div style="height:20px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<p>We had just arrived at the MalaMala Game Reserve in the Sabi Sands of South Africa, and that same afternoon, we set out on our first game drive. </p>

<p><strong><em>“</em></strong>What would you like to see?” Craig, our ranger asked, before we set off along the rocky path that led across the river. We planned to drive away from the lodge towards the border with <strong>Kruger National Park</strong>. The MalaMala estate consists of thousands of kilometers of privately owned bush land filled with wild animals.&nbsp;</p>

<div style="height:20px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="https://www.travelifemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/IMG_1449-1024x768.jpg" alt="The new rooms at the MalaMala Game Reserve in the Sabi Samds of South Africa" class="wp-image-36454" srcset="https://www.travelifemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/IMG_1449-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://www.travelifemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/IMG_1449-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.travelifemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/IMG_1449-768x576.jpg 768w, https://www.travelifemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/IMG_1449.jpg 1500w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<div style="height:20px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">GAME DRIVES AT MALAMALA </h2>

<p>MalaMala is famous for its animal sightings so I immediately went for the gold. I said: “The Big 5 and the leopards. And especially the leopards.”</p>

<p>Craig smiled confidently. He probably received this request often from eager holidaymakers. The <strong>Sabi Sands is one of the most famous private game reserves</strong> for viewing the Big 5, after all. Within this area, MalaMala is especially well-known for its <strong>leopard sightings</strong>.</p>

<div style="height:20px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="749" src="https://www.travelifemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/IMG_1441-1024x749.jpg" alt="The new rooms at the MalaMala Game Reserve in the Sabi Samds of South Africa" class="wp-image-36460" srcset="https://www.travelifemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/IMG_1441-1024x749.jpg 1024w, https://www.travelifemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/IMG_1441-300x219.jpg 300w, https://www.travelifemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/IMG_1441-768x562.jpg 768w, https://www.travelifemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/IMG_1441.jpg 1500w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<div style="height:20px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>HOW TO SPOT A LEOPARD ON SAFARI</strong></h4>

<p>I myself was fairly sure we would get up close to the leopard sometime during our three-day safari. It was just Day 1 and we had six game drives to go. At three hours per drive, that was at least 18 hours of searching for animals. And leopards never really stray far from a favorite home.</p>

<div style="height:20px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="https://www.travelifemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/IMG_1651-1024x768.jpg" alt="The new rooms at the MalaMala Game Reserve in the Sabi Samds of South Africa" class="wp-image-36457" srcset="https://www.travelifemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/IMG_1651-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://www.travelifemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/IMG_1651-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.travelifemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/IMG_1651-768x576.jpg 768w, https://www.travelifemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/IMG_1651.jpg 1500w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<div style="height:20px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<p>Admittedly, there were some challenges. It was late summer and the grasses were tall and greenery was abundant. This actually gave MalaMala an ethereal atmosphere of prettiness. It was like driving through paradise with the colors, smells, and sounds rushing past me. However this also made animal sightings harder.</p>

<div style="height:20px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img decoding="async" width="768" height="1024" src="https://www.travelifemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/IMG_1529-768x1024.jpg" alt="Game drives at MalaMala Game Reserve, one of the best safari lodges in South Africa" class="wp-image-36458" srcset="https://www.travelifemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/IMG_1529-768x1024.jpg 768w, https://www.travelifemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/IMG_1529-225x300.jpg 225w, https://www.travelifemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/IMG_1529.jpg 900w" sizes="(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px" /></figure></div>

<div style="height:20px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>TOP ANIMAL SIGHTINGS IN SOUTH AFRICA </strong></h4>

<p>To our surprise, we bumped into our first leopard that same afternoon. He walked nonchalantly out of some tall bushes in front of our parked jeep without even a glance at us.&nbsp;</p>

<div style="height:20px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="https://www.travelifemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/IMG_1562-1-1024x768.jpg" alt="The new rooms at the MalaMala Game Reserve in the Sabi Samds of South Africa" class="wp-image-36459" srcset="https://www.travelifemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/IMG_1562-1-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://www.travelifemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/IMG_1562-1-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.travelifemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/IMG_1562-1-768x576.jpg 768w, https://www.travelifemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/IMG_1562-1.jpg 1500w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<div style="height:20px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<p>We followed him breathlessly on his stroll around a pond before finally losing him to the darkness. Perhaps he was looking for prey or a place for the night. Elated, we headed back to the camp. With such success, we were ready to celebrate with a really good dinner.</p>

<div style="height:20px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="https://www.travelifemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/IMG_1437-1024x768.jpg" alt="The new rooms at the MalaMala Game Reserve in the Sabi Samds of South Africa" class="wp-image-36461" srcset="https://www.travelifemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/IMG_1437-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://www.travelifemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/IMG_1437-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.travelifemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/IMG_1437-768x576.jpg 768w, https://www.travelifemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/IMG_1437.jpg 1500w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<div style="height:20px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>LARGEST SAFARI PROPERTY </strong></h4>

<p>It was low season but <strong>Sable Camp</strong> had four other couples enjoying a three-course meal on the terrace that night. We all compared notes on what we’d seen and why we’d chosen <strong>MalaMala</strong> out of all the amazing nature holidays in this world.</p>

<p>Everyone had been lucky with the Big 5. In fact, two out of five tables had seen the leopards so far. As for <strong>the reasons for choosing MalaMala</strong>, one of the guests explained its advantages most accurately. “MalaMala has the largest property and a river runs through most of it. That’s like a magnet for animals,” he said.&nbsp;</p>

<div style="height:20px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="https://www.travelifemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/IMG_1483-1024x768.jpg" alt="The new rooms at the MalaMala Game Reserve in the Sabi Samds of South Africa" class="wp-image-36462" srcset="https://www.travelifemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/IMG_1483-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://www.travelifemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/IMG_1483-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.travelifemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/IMG_1483-768x576.jpg 768w, https://www.travelifemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/IMG_1483.jpg 1500w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<div style="height:20px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>THE BEST LUXURY SAFARI LODGES IN AFRICA</strong></h4>

<p>Some luxury safari lodges are all about the complete experience, and animal sightings star in this movie set in the wilderness. They offer champagne sundowners, rose petals in the bathtub, and gourmet meals.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Some travelers want to star in their own version of Robert Redford’s <em>Out of Africa,</em> so there is a market for safaris with these scenes straight out of Hollywood.&nbsp;</p>

<div style="height:20px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="https://www.travelifemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/IMG_1775-1024x768.jpg" alt="The new rooms at the MalaMala Game Reserve in the Sabi Samds of South Africa" class="wp-image-36463" srcset="https://www.travelifemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/IMG_1775-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://www.travelifemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/IMG_1775-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.travelifemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/IMG_1775-768x576.jpg 768w, https://www.travelifemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/IMG_1775.jpg 1500w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<div style="height:20px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<p>Then there are other lodges mainly focused on the wildlife. Here, the animals are clearly the superstars and the guests are just the temporary extras in this never-ending story. These game reserves strive to bring guests into their sanctuaries in as comfortable and yet also as natural as possible.&nbsp;So guests are happy but&nbsp;the environment and the animals are never disturbed. &nbsp;</p>

<p>MalaMala firmly belongs to the latter. In fact, it’s the gold standard for upmarket lodges that straddle the fine line between nature immersion and entertainment. I like to call it the real safari lover’s safari.</p>

<div style="height:20px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="https://www.travelifemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/IMG_1612-1024x768.jpg" alt="The new rooms at the MalaMala Game Reserve in the Sabi Samds of South Africa" class="wp-image-36464" srcset="https://www.travelifemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/IMG_1612-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://www.travelifemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/IMG_1612-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.travelifemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/IMG_1612-768x576.jpg 768w, https://www.travelifemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/IMG_1612.jpg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<h2 style="text-align: center;"><strong>ABOUT THE MALAMALA GAME RESERVE IN SOUTH AFRICA</strong></h2>
<p><b>Michael Rattray</b>,<b> founder of&nbsp;MalaMala</b>, begun the concept of a <b>luxury safari&nbsp;experience</b> ahead of everyone else by improving&nbsp;on<b> a safari camp </b>established in 1927 by his father’s&nbsp;friend. This was in <strong>the 1960s</strong>, at a time when&nbsp;most other camps were nothing but tents and&nbsp;bush. Little has changed at <b>the MalaMala Game Reserve in the&nbsp;Sabi Sands</b> over&nbsp;the past decades.</p>
<table class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" align="center">

</table>
<p>“We’ve kept this lounge pretty much as&nbsp;is,” explained <b>Greg Baldwin</b>, <b>MalaMala’s&nbsp;head ranger </b>and our host for our stay, as we&nbsp;walked past a cavernous room done up with&nbsp;<b>leather chairs and animal skins</b>.</p>
<p>He added, as we stopped to <b>inspect faded&nbsp;black-and-white photos of the camp</b> on the walls,&nbsp;“If you look at these, you’ll find that much of it is&nbsp;still very&nbsp;recognisable.”</p>
<p>Each&nbsp;<b>group of guests at the MalaMala Game Reserve</b> is assigned a ranger who takes&nbsp;care of every detail of the stay, including&nbsp;<b>menus, activities and transfers.</b>&nbsp;We were&nbsp;lucky to be assigned their best man. In fact, Greg is probably <strong>the best ranger</strong> I&#8217;ve had in the 20 safaris I&#8217;ve done in Africa.</p>
<p><b>Greg&nbsp;was a master planner </b>and also a mean 4WD&nbsp;driver, a great storyteller and<b>&nbsp;a walking encyclopedia on everything in the bush</b>.</p>
<h2 style="text-align: center;"><b>STEEPED IN NOSTALGIA</b></h2>

<div style="text-align: center;"></div>
<p>Indeed, the <b>camp layout</b>&nbsp;is almost the same,&nbsp;as are the original <b>cone-shaped lodgings from&nbsp;the 1930s</b>. The structures have been rebuilt&nbsp;and upgraded since then. But the rooms and&nbsp;suites at the<b>&nbsp;main camp</b> nevertheless&nbsp;have <b>simple native-inspired furniture</b> and a&nbsp;comfortable old-fashioned atmosphere.</p>
<p>The <b>bougainvillea trees</b> that line the pathways provide a delightful shock of pink, when in&nbsp;bloom, to an otherwise typical green-and-brown&nbsp;safari landscape. These trees were planted by an <b>English&nbsp;aristocrat </b>back in 1935.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, adjacent to the lounge is what is perhaps the<b>&nbsp;camp’s most famous room.</b>&nbsp;The&nbsp;<b>MalaMala bar </b>is cozy, lined with <b>vintage&nbsp;photos </b>and its centerpiece is a masculine wooden&nbsp;counter made shiny from use.</p>
<p>This bar counter has been there&nbsp;ever since anyone can remember. It&#8217;s the venue of perhaps a thousand stories. In fact, it still has the&nbsp;old score board on the wall on which safari&nbsp;goers used to <b>tally their animal sightings&nbsp;for the day</b> over rounds of drinks before&nbsp;dinner.</p>

So until the other day, <b>we&#8217;d already been on four safaris in two weeks in Africa, living a #Travelife</b>, and <b>we&#8217;d still not seen the elusive cheetah</b>.</p>
<div>

<div>
There were no cheetah in our first safari on this trip, which was at <b>a seaside safari lodge near Port Alfred.&nbsp;</b></p>
<p>As for the other three safari lodges, they did have cheetah but<b> the sighting of one is a matter of luck</b> as there are relatively few wandering about compared to other animals.&nbsp;</div>

<p>I was relatively <b>relaxed about not seeing this beautiful animal</b> as cheetah and I have already crossed paths several times before. The first time I saw a cheetah was <b>on the way to one of the most remote safari lodges in South Africa.&nbsp;</b></div>
<div>

This is<b> at the very tip of the remote Northern Cape</b>, located within a national park with no commercial flights to and from the national park.<br />

<b><br /></b></div>
<p><b><br /></b><br />
<b>I had to take a private plane to a dusty and deserted airstrip</b>, and from there <b>it was a five-hour drive through nothing but desert to the lodge</b>.</p>
<p>And, as there are no commercial flights here,<b> the pilot had to park the plane in one corner and wait for me on safari</b> &#8212; and so he ended up coming along with us, too, for want of something to do.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
This was about 15 months ago, and it was on this safari that I first encountered a cheetah in the wild. And wasn&#8217;t he beautiful, <b>sauntering in front of our jeep</b>, just like that.</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<p></div>
<div>
On this trip, though, my companion had never seen a cheetah, so <b>the pressure to find one was clearly on by the time we got to MalaMala Game Reserve</b>, which was our last safari stop.</p>
<p>By then I was also a tinge guilty about doing a best effort to show him a cheetah as <b>I&#8217;d dragged him into going on this safari trip.</b>&nbsp;His idea of a holiday is not riding a jeep through the wilderness, and he much preferred<b> to do the wine route of South Africa</b> for that same amount of time we had.</p>
<p>And now it amuses me no end, by the way,&nbsp;<b>when he tells me he can&#8217;t stop watching lions and other wildlife animals on YouTube.</b></p>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<h3>
<b>THE BIGGEST ESTATE IN SABI SANDS</b></h3>
</div>
</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Anyway, the pressure to find a cheetah yesterday was even more because <b>we were assigned ranger Greg Baldwin, who is the head ranger for the entire MalaMala Game Reserve</b>, which is the largest game reserve in this area of Greater Kruger.</p>
<p>All the other private reserves literally pale in comparison, <b>as far as size is concerned</b>. So we had a lot of ground to cover, and <b>we had the best ranger in the area guiding us</b>.</p>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<h3>
<b>ONE FOR THE ROAD:</b><b>OUR LAST SAFARI GAME DRIVE</b></h3>
</div>
</div>
</div>
<p>
Greg was our ranger for our stay at MalaMala and yesterday was <b>our last safari drive before flying back to Johannesburg</b>, and we still had not crossed the cheetah off our sightings list when we got into the jeep to start off.</p>
<p>By then, after so many game drives,<b>&nbsp;I was actually quite happy just to meander about</b>, and see impala jumping around and elephants wading in the river.</p>

</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<h3>
<b>WHERE TO FIND A CHEETAH</b></h3>
</div>
<p>
But suddenly Greg turned to us and said: &#8220;<b>Two cheetahs have been sighted at the very far end of the property</b>. But they&#8217;re actually walking out of the property now and into Kruger Park.&#8221;</p>
<p>He&#8217;d been on the radio, you see, and so he was listening to all the chatter that morning. He continued: &#8220;Do you want to see the cheetah? <b>It&#8217;s about a 40-minute drive over there.</b>&#8220;</p>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<h3>
<b>A LAST HURRAH</b></h3>
</div>
<p>
We were in the middle of our drive already, and <b>40 minutes meant 80 minutes roundtrip on bumpy terrain and rough roads</b>.</p>
<p>But we decided to go for it as a last hurrah, and boy, did we literally fly. I felt like Indiana Jones&#8217; sidekick, <b>with our jeep flying through bushes and brush and us bumping up and down in the back</b>.</p>
<p>Once, Greg turned around and said: &#8220;<b>Sorry if I&#8217;m driving so fast, but the cheetah are literally on the border. We&#8217;re minutes away from missing them.</b>&#8220;</p>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<h3>
<b>THE STRICT RULES&nbsp;</b><b>AT SAFARI GAME RESERVES</b></h3>
</div>

</div>
<p>
And if you know safari reserve rules, <b>you&#8217;ll know that most game reserves don&#8217;t have physical fences.</b> Properties are just delineated by roads, but things are very strict, and <b>you cannot cross even one inch into another property</b>, even if there are no fences.</p>
<p>And even if no one is watching.</p>
<p>When we finally got to the sighting area, <b>we arrived just in time to see the cheetah pause.&nbsp;</b>Literally pause for a minute or two.</p>

<h3>
<b>THE LAST TWO MINUTES&nbsp;</b><b>AT A SAFARI</b></h3>
</div>
<p>
The cheetah were already officially in Kruger Park so <b>we couldn&#8217;t follow them in with our jeep</b>, even if they were like a dozen meters away from us. But <b>from the very edge of the final inch of MalaMala property,</b> we could see them well enough.</p>
<p>And if we&#8217;d arrived two minutes later, we would have missed them completely.<b> The cheetah had paused for a two-minute breather. And how lucky were we.</b></p>
<p>Because after that, the cheetah turned their backs on us and <b>walked deeper into Kruger National Park</b>, presumably living their own versions of <b>a never-ending, and never-endingly eventful #Travelife.</b><br />

<p>So there we were the other day in Africa, <b><a href="http://www.travelife.biz/">living a #Travelife</a></b>, ready to go out for <b>a three-hour morning game drive at the <a href="http://www.malamala.com/">MalaMala Game Reserve</a></b> when our ranger Greg Baldwin, who happens to be <b>the head ranger for the entire MalaMala Game Reserve and its four lodges</b>, made an interesting suggestion.</p>

</div>
</div>
</div>
<p>He asked us: &#8220;<b>How would you like to have a picnic breakfast in the bush, instead of coming back to the lodge?</b>&#8220;</p>
<p>Frankly, <b>I&#8217;m not the best girl scout in the world</b>, although I love al fresco lunches and dinners where all I have to do is sit and eat.</p>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>A PICNIC BREAKAST AFTER MY OWN HEART</b></div>
<p>
Fortunately he continued: &#8220;<b>Someone will set everything up for us and we&#8217;ll just drive over after our game drive </b>and it will all be ready except for the cooking. Then it will basically be just us, and I&#8217;ll make breakfast.&#8221;</p>
<p>That sounded nice. <b>And, game for adventure in a never-ending #Travelife, as always, we said yes.</b></p>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>A BETTER THAN EXPECTED BREAKFAST</b></div>
<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">

<p></div>
<p>
This outdoor breakfast sure turned out <b>way nicer than it seemed to us at the beginning, when Greg had suggested it</b>.</p>
<p>Greg wasn&#8217;t kidding about having <b>everything already beautifully prepared for us, either</b>.</p>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<p>When we got the camp site after our game drive, <b>everything was set up so beautifully by the river</b> that <b>the whole scene could have come from some upscale lifestyle magazine</b>.</p>
<p>Proper table cloths, <b>a counter filled with a buffet of breakfast goodies</b>, and two cooking stations waiting to be used.</p>
<p><b>How wonderful was that?</b></p>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>A TREAT FOR LONG-STAYING GUESTS</b></div>

<p>This outdoor breakfast is<b> a special arrangement made by MalaMala for long-staying guests</b> at any of its four camps, on a request basis, by the way.</p>
<p>If you&#8217;re just staying two nights or so, you&#8217;re unlikely to be able to do this as <b>there wouldn&#8217;t be enough time.</b></p>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<p>And just like clockwork on that beautiful morning in Africa, <b>a huge family of elephants appeared from the other side of the river to drink</b>.</p>

<b>ELEPHANTS IN THE WILD</b></div>

<b>I was watching the elephants from a safe place by the river banks</b> as the guys did the dirty work of getting the barbecue to work, when suddenly the elephants began to move our way &#8212; and quite quickly.</p>
<p>There they were, thumping through the water and making their way towards us. <b>This is the bush so there&#8217;s no such thing as taking things easy, so I alerted Greg even if they were still a safe few hundred meters away.</b><br />

<p>
&#8220;Uh, Greg,&#8221; I said, calling out to him. <b>He was busy setting up the fires.</b></p>
<p>He looked up at me. So I continued: &#8220;<b>The elephants are coming our way and pretty fast.</b>&#8220;</p>
<p>Yes, by now, they were in a rush,<b> heading up our path to our breakfast place</b>. Perhaps they also wanted scrambled eggs for breakfast.</p>

<b>I was already thinking about jumping into the jeep</b>, especially as I was in the first line of fire of the stampede, but Greg ever so cool said to us: &#8220;<b>Get back here by the fires and stay out of sight.</b>&#8220;</p>
<p>Then, he got a big stick and went to the river banks and started waving his arms and making noises. <b>Obviously the elephants understood him eventually as they moved away and took another path.</b></p>
<p>How cool was that?</p></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<p>Then it was my turn to get to work.</p>
<p>Greg was supposed to do all the cooking, but<b> I just couldn&#8217;t resist doing a bit of cooking out in the bush</b>, especially if another ranger was coming back <b>after we were done to do the cleaning up</b>.</p>
<p>Talk about <b>a no-stress luxury breakfast in the bush.</b></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-msPfOY6b-94/VVBJ2GG7uBI/AAAAAAAA0yo/RnqQiwCOh5g/s640/blogger-image-686956089.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><img decoding="async" border="0" height="400" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-msPfOY6b-94/VVBJ2GG7uBI/AAAAAAAA0yo/RnqQiwCOh5g/s400/blogger-image-686956089.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<p>So while the guys fried the bacon and sausages, <b>I set about breaking eggs, adding cream and milk, and chopping up some smoked salmon that the MalaMala chefs had thoughtfully added into our picnic basket.</b><br />
<b><br /></b><br />
</p>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>EVERYTHING TASTES WONDERFUL&nbsp;</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>WHEN FRESH AIR&#8217;S INVOLVED</b></div>
<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
</div>
<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-ArxnXskMZBQ/VVBQ5y4Jr1I/AAAAAAAA0z4/OZbT820Nnzw/s640/blogger-image-1000458339.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><img decoding="async" border="0" height="400" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-ArxnXskMZBQ/VVBQ5y4Jr1I/AAAAAAAA0z4/OZbT820Nnzw/s400/blogger-image-1000458339.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<p></div>
<p>
Then I made <b>scrambled eggs with smoked salmon</b>, which tasted delicious out in the bush that morning.</p>
<p>Nothing like a picnic breakfast in the bush with a herd of elephants for company, <b>on just another wonderful morning in my never-ending, and never-endingly eventful #Travelife.</b></p>
