If you visit the Valle del Jerte in Extremadura in southwest Spain in late March, you will see over one million cherry trees in blossom covering the mountainsides in swathes of white.

Trujillo Villas Espana, with five restored villas in the medieval town of Trujillo, is introducing new cherry experiences for guests wanting to see this local phenomenon, pick cherries and taste the cherry liqueurs and brandy.

The 70 kilometer-long valley near Caceres is the highest area of Extremadura, and home to around 150 varieties of cherry. The most famous type of cherry in this area of southwest Spain is the Picota cherry, one of the sweetest cherries there and one that is unique to the area.

Grown in small family farms in a traditional and sustainable manner, the Picota cherry of the Extramadura of Spain comes with a Denomination of Origin certificate that classifies it as being of the highest quality and coming only from this area of the world.

Trujillo Villas Espana is offering guests a private guided drive through the valley with time out to walk along the trails that wind between the cherry trees and villages and take in the beauty of the landscape.

The tours will include views of the cherry blossom in the spring and cherry picking later on in the season, when guests can pick cherries straight from the trees in the traditional way and take home a 2 kilogram box per person.

The valley near Caceres in the Extramadura of Spain is famous for its cherry liqueur, brandy and marmalade. Guests can also visit one of the small plots in the valley and taste different types of cherry brandy and liqueurs.
