Good morning from one of Sri Lanka’s most beautiful and exclusive hotels, living a Travelife, and literally having it all to myself.
I was the only guest here last night and the very large estate was completely lighted up very dramatically when I arrived, with the staff on hand just for me.
It’s pretty much the same thing, this morning.
It’s a nice feeling to have so much space, luxury and service all to myself, I have to admit, after the initial surprise of last night.

WHAT A LOVELY HOTEL.
PERFECT FOR SRI LANKA.
Of course, sometimes I wish I’d taken someone along with me.
Amazing experiences like this are so meant to be shared. But it’s also very nice done alone. Talk about the ultimate thinking time venue.
In a not very short span of a never-endingly eventful Travelife, too, this hotel is just right in my books.
And coming from me and my days and weeks filled with some pretty fanastic hotels, that’s a big statement.
PICTURESQUE AND EVER SO STYLISH
This hotel is not luxurious or drop-dead impressive, but at first glance, you can tell that the owner is very cultured, and simply has impeccable taste.
It’s stylish, understatedly chic, ever so picturesque, and just the right size. The estate itself is large — I drove by tea plantations in between the main gate and the reception area — and everything is so pretty.
You read about it first here in the Travelife blog, and you’ll soon be reading about it in Travelife Magazine.
I hate to sound like a broken record, but indeed no one travels like us. Or writes like us.
OTHER AMAZING EXPERIENCES
So I have some equally amazing travel experiences lined up for the rest of the year.
Our trip to Tanzania, which is a holiday I’m really looking forward to, by the way, is just one one-of-a-kind, got-to-do-it-once-in-your-life experience after another.
We’ve booked some of the most amazing places in the world for this trip, so I have a feeling Tanzania will give this place a good run for its money in terms of the wow factor.
MOST SPECIAL SO FAR THIS YEAR
But this one, so far, is really among the most special ones this year — a year of traveling to fabulous destinations and staying in some truly amazing places.
A two-storey suite in the best hotel in Paris, for instance. And a glamourous beachside villa in Vietnam. A beautiful room with a view in the world’s best design hotel for 2013, in Tokyo. Just to name a few.
Read about the world’s best design hotel in the current issue of Travelife Magazine, by the way. On sale everywhere now.
THE PERSONAL TOUCH
This is just a corner of my villa…
There’s no hint of commercialism and everything is incredibly personalized. I don’t feel I’m at a hotel at all, especially as I’m the only guest in this intimate but huge estate.
And here’s what I want do with this hotel, some other day, some other lifetime, but still living a never-ending Travelife.
Plus some suggestions as well for those who wish to live a Travelife or to celebrate a special occasion:
FOR A HONEYMOON, TAKE THE WHOLE ESTATE.
A view of the forest from my private balcony
1) This hotel is perfect for a honeymoon.
It’s one of the most romantic places I’ve stayed in, in recent memory, apart from La Residence in Franschhoek, South Africa.
And if the groom is flush with cash, you should get him to book all the rooms even if you’re staying in only one room. That way, you really have the whole place to yourself. It’s definitely one for the books.
DANCE LIKE NO ONE’S WATCHING AT A PRIVATE PARTY.
BECAUSE NO ONE WILL BE WATCHING.
2) Book the entire place for a very special private party such as a 50th birthday. It’s not Aman-level in cost or luxury, but it’s really down-to-earth beautiful. You can play the music you like all over the estate and party by the pool and the ponds all night.
You can even skinny-dip with a glass of champagne in hand.
My 50th won’t be for some time, but this is certainly a contender for my birthday party venue, along with The Datai in Langkawi and, of course, La Residence in South Africa.
I wouldn’t mind booking these hotels out for a private party. Now to try and win the lottery…
A SPECIAL TREAT.
THE TRAVELIFE WAY.
3) Even if you don’t book the whole place, get one of the nice suites for a holiday treat — and for your own version of a never-ending, and never-endingly eventful Travelife.
