Cocktail making classes in Vietnam

On a recent stay at the Pullman Danang Beach Resort in Vietnam, we signed up for cocktail making classes. Of course the resort has so many other interesting activities such as tai chi classes and energy classes, as well as cooking lessons. It also has a beautiful spa with a steam bath, sauna and jacuzzi.

Then there was our gorgeous beachside villa. Just staying in the villa was enough of a relaxing holiday since we had an open-air living room that looked out directly to the sea. It was so nice just to sit here and feel the breeze.

But neither of us had ever made cocktails before so we thought making cocktails would be lots of fun. We were not disappointed. The class was fun. And it was even more enjoyable that we ended our class with delicious cocktails.

We met our “teacher” at the lobby bar at 3 PM. When we arrived, we found a very interesting “classroom.” There was a counter nicely laid out with different kinds of liquor, glasses and equipment. I saw a cocktail shaker and different martini glasses.

We made beautiful cocktails with the theme of Danang. This was most appropriate as we had just enjoyed a wonderful holiday in Danang, and it was our last day.

FLIGHTS FROM HONG KONG TO DANANG ON CATHAY DRAGON

The next morning, we were flying to Hong Kong on Cathay Dragon, the regional airline of Cathay Pacific. Cathay Dragon operates flights directly between Danang and Hong Kong in approximately 90 minutes.

After the class, we took our cocktails out to the beach. Relaxing on lounge chairs and looking out onto the sea, we toasted to a truly enjoyable holiday in Vietnam that officially ended that same day with a stay at the Pullman Danang Beach Resort.

The best restaurant in Danang

In Vietnam last week, living a #Travelife, we discovered the Ngon Villa restaurant in the laidback city of Danang. We found ourselves looking for delicious Vietnamese food on a free evening.

Of course we went online and soon found this restaurant, rated by travelers on Trip Advisor as the best restaurant in Danang since it opened in June.

NGON VILLA: THE BEST RESTAURANT IN DANANG

So our hotel concierge quickly booked us a table at Ngon Villa. We were quite lucky as this restaurant is always full. But somehow we found a table. So off we went in a car to Danang’s nightlife district.

We found a pretty restaurant with colourful decor and a casual vibe. The small garden had about 200 lanterns hanging from the trees and beyond it, chefs were busy churning out tantalising looking dishes.

The menu was long and varied. It had traditional Vietnamese dishes, some original dishes, and local food. Even the seafood was all-you-can-order. So you can imagine how we feasted on oysters, shrimps and fish. I especially liked the oysters with Vietnamese seasoning and spices.

THE BEST VALUE RESTAURANT IN DANANG

“I’ve never seen such a good deal in my life,” I said to my companion. Of course there are way cheaper restaurants, as well as more elegant and expensive restaurants. But this was a restaurant offering unlimited food for the price of a buffet. And it was not a mass market buffet at all.

Every dish is prepared from scratch when ordered for this flat rate. And everything is easy to observe as the ground floor kitchen is open for viewing.

ORIGINAL COCKTAILS IN VIETNAM

The restaurant manager, a very friendly young man from Hanoi named Tiptop, came over to say hello so we invited him to sit with us for awhile.

He was nice enough to order us some specialty cocktails on the house. One cocktail required us to mix three containers of liquid together to come up with a delicious cocktail that was coloured emerald green.

“Everything is fresh,” he told us. “We don’t pre-cook anything. And customers can really order as much as they want. Recently, we had some tourists from Hong Kong who ordered 20 plates of shrimp and 20 plates of noodles.”

I didn’t count how much food we ended up having. But we ordered every single thing on the specialty menu of local dishes and we were completely full. It was a wonderful way to enjoy an evening out, living a Travelife.
