We were choosing a casual comfort food restaurant for lunch this weekend, someone suggested: “Why don’t you try Fiery Style in BGC? It just opened.” This was how we ended up in the Fiery Style Southwestern Flaming Grill Restaurant in Burgos Circle in BGC.
ABOUT FIERY STYLE IN BGC
Fiery Style Southwestern Flaming Grill is a chain of restaurants in Manila that serves southwestern comfort food. It’s grown very popular over the last years, and now you can find a branch practically everywhere.
There are Fiery Style restaurants in upscale locations like Fiery Style in BGC Burgos Circle and BGC Uptown Mall, and also in Resorts World Manila.
TACOS & BURRITOS ON A RAINY DAY
This seemed like the perfect place for a comfort food lunch on a rather rainy day. Isn’t is especially nice to eat tacos and burritos on a slightly rainy day? We chose to go to the Fiery Style in BGC Burgos Circle because it was most convenient for walking around Bonifacio High Street afterwards.
TEX-MEX RESTAURANT IN MANILA
The Fiery Style restaurant in Burgos Circle in BGC itself is colourful, with bright colours and posters of Mexico on the walls. This made the atmosphere very cheerful. In addition, there are two sets of outdoor seating: one on the ground floor and one on the terrace on the second floor.
TEX-MEX FOOD ON THE MENU
As we were very hungry, we went straight for the menu to check out what was good. We were only four, but we ended up ordering practically everything we fancied since all the dishes looked so appetising.
To start, we had four really delicious appetisers. I kid you not. These were so tasty that I could have eaten everything in five minutes. However, we’d ordered main dishes as well so we tried to pace ourselves.
BONE MARROW SISIG & CHICKEN SKIN
Among the starters, I loved the southwest chili bone marrow sisig and the crispy chicken skin. The crispy chicken skin was really hard to resist as it was simply deep-fried chicken skin served piping hot with vinegar. And who doesn’t like crispy chicken skin, right?
On the other hand, my companions really loved the crispy salted egg squid rings and the deep-friend stuffed baby squids in olive oil. So we ordered our appetisers perfectly. Everyone found a dish or two that they really enjoyed, and our plates were wiped clean.
What we loved:
- All the appetisers were delicious, but don’t miss the crispy chicken skin
- The tacos with sisig were special and really tasty
- It was great fun to create our own burritos from a medley of spices and sauces
- The steaks are the specialty of the house
SOUTHWESTERN COMFORT FOOD
Of course, Fiery Style is known for proper Tex-Mex food so we ordered all the usual favourites too. We ordered tacos with a Mexican chili cheese flavour, and also tacos with a twist.
The latter is a specialty called Tacos Fiery Grilled Sisig. I did not need any further incentive to order this dish with so many of my favorite things in it. I love sisig, you see.
QUESADILLA IN TEX-MEX RESTAURANT IN MANILA
Then came the main courses. We ordered a mix of comfort food and healthy. As we were in a Tex-Mex restaurant, of course we had to have the Mexican cheese quesadilla.
The waiter brought a large plate full of beautifully arranged flat tortilla squares with cheese. It had small jars of condiments on the side. We especially loved “making our own Mexican-style sandwiches.”
SALAD IN A TACO SHELL FOR INSTAGRAM
To balance out all the calories, we also ordered the house specialty called Flaming Super Healthy Salad. The server brought us a salad mixed with Mexican rice in a large taco shell! That was definitely a great photo for Instagram.
Finally, we couldn’t leave without ordering at least one fish dish. “What do you recommend?” We asked Mark Noche, restaurant manager of Fiery Style in BGC Burgos Circle Branch.
WHAT FISH TO ORDER AT A TEX-MEX RESTAURANT
He suggested we try the lava-grilled chanos chanos, which was a Mexican-style marinated and grilled bangus. Together with the Mexican rice, it was simply delicious.
MAC ‘N CHEESE WITH CHILI
Full as we were, we couldn’t resist ordering another winner on the menu. This was the simple Mac ‘n cheese, but the Fiery style version definitely had a chili kick which actually made it really nice.
In fact, it was addicting. I took the leftovers home and had it as a midnight snack afterwards.
DESSERTS AT A TEX-MEX RESTAURANT
None of us can end a meal without dessert, so we chose three desserts to share among four of us. We ordered the soft brownie a la mode, the southwest churros, and 1 chili chocolate fudge. The churros came first and these were exactly as I wanted them. They were crispy on the outside and soft inside, served with a deep and dark chocolate sauce.
The brownies also had this deep and dark chocolate sauce which is really addicting. Just as I was praising all the desserts and saying how happy I was about all the chocolate, my friend said: “This is a Mexican restaurant, after all.”
She added: “Don’t they put chocolate on everything? They even use chocolate for stews and chicken. So don’t be surprised to find so much chocolate in the desserts.”
DELICIOUS COMFORT FOOD AT FIERY STYLE BGC
Well, I was in seventh heaven with Tex-Mex comfort food and so much chocolate. Just before we left the restaurant, full and happy, we asked to meet the chefs responsible for our delicious lunch. The Fiery Style Southwestern Flaming Grill in Burgos Circle just opened and it’s great to know we now have a Tex-Mex comfort food restaurant in BGC.
