Tonight was one of those double-booked evenings in a never-ending Travelife.
Actually, I was triple-booked tonight, but I had to beg off one cocktail party as time and logistics simply wouldn’t allow it.

So I began the evening with cocktails and a concert at the home of the Swiss Ambassador in Forbes Park, and ended it close to midnight at a sit-down Italian dinner at the EDSA Shangri-la with the hotel general manager and the Ambassador of Italy.

And tonight, just before 6 PM, there I was at home, figuring out what to wear when inertia overtook me.
When you’re home and sitting on your bed with your shoes off, it’s not so easy to get out and face the traffic madness at rush hour back again.

Fortunately, I gathered enough strength to finish dressing up and then I headed down a few blocks to the Swiss ambassador’s home.
And then I went across town to the attend the sit-down dinner at the EDSA Shangri-la with the Italian Ambassador and a group of wine lovers.
I am so glad I did this, as both events were very enjoyable.
The whole evening was full of wonderful opportunities to catch up with so many old friends I basically haven’t seen since January.
I’d been away on four consecutive trips, you see, and my Blackberry stopped working while I was in Japan, as well. And somewhere in between all this, my email server in the United States had a meltdown for close to a week, during which time I was incommunicado via email as well.
But this was just too much to explain, so I simply said: “I’ve just come back from Tokyo.“
And pretty soon, the next two weeks quickly got filled up with catch-up lunches and dinners.
The food at tonight’s Italian dinner was excellent as well, paired with equally lovely Italian wines. I ate way too much and drank even more than that. Fortunately, I started today with a killer Pilates session that hopefully burned some calories to make up for the 5000 calories I must have eaten tonight.
