The Vikings Group has brought the Singapore-based Michelin one-Star restaurant Putien to the Philippines. The first branch in the Philippines, which is also the 67th branch of Putien worldwide, is now open at The Podium in Ortigas.
“PUTIEN serves characteristically light, down-to-earth, and flavorful food, with an emphasis on fresh ingredients,” says founder and CEO Fong Chi Chung. In fact, Putien was named after the founder’s hometown, Putian City—a coastal suburb in the province of Fujian, China. “It is my mission to share the culinary flavors of my hometown to diners all over the world,” he adds.
Unlike the Chinese cuisine most Filipinos are familiar with, PUTIEN’s dishes include ingredients harvested and obtained during specific seasons from certain places in Fujian. Among these are the yellow croaker from the mudflats of Ningde; Duotou clam from the Duo Tou Village; and also Da Hong Pao from the high mountains. As such, there is a hint of the Fujian taste with every dish.
“The Fujian flavor gives a unique twist to the usual Cantonese-style food,” shares Charles Lee, Vikings Group Marketing Director. “And so we’re excited for Filipinos to try this type of cuisine; especially since it’s making waves in Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and China for its good quality and service.”
PUTIEN prides itself with its intricately prepared dishes which makes use of fresh ingredients, including the must-try Bian Rou Soup; it highlights the wrappers made from pork hind leg meat pounded and kneaded for at least one and a half hours. Their signature dishes also include the 100-Second Stewed Yellow Croaker and Sweet and Sour Pork with Lychee.
