Fiji’s most famous hotel to rebrand and reopen in 2022

The Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva, one of the most famous hotels in the Pacific, will rebrand and reopen as an InterContinental hotel by 2022.

This iconic hotel will be called the InterContinental Grand Pacific Hotel Suva after a refurbishment  It will be IHG’s third hotel in Fiji. Also, it will be the  second Intercontinental hotel, after the InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort and Spa in Natadola Bay.

Built in 1914, this grande dame reopened on its hundredth anniversary in 2014 with contemporary colonial architecture. The stunning Grand Pacific Hotel has an incredibly rich history. It also has a special place in the hearts of Fijians. In fact, an image of the hotel is featured on the Fijian ten dollar note.

In June 1928, Charles Kingsford Smith made aviation history when he landed his “Southern Cross” Fokker monoplane in Fiji. He flew into Albert Park, just opposite the Grand Pacific Hotel. This was en route to Australia on his epic Trans Pacific flight from America. Of course, he stayed at the hotel.

With a lower traveller footprint due to the global crisis, we are taking the opportunity to bring forward the refurbishment of this hotel, bringing it to life in a new way ready for the next era of tourism in Fiji.”

The hotel has hosted countless celebrities, politicians and royalty over its 100 years. Foremost among these is Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen has visited the hotel three times. She even gave a speech at a ball in 1953 from the hotel’s balcony, as part of her first tour of the British Empire as Queen. More recently, the Queen’s grandson Harry and his wife Meghan stayed at the hotel in 2018.


Right on the main seafront of Suva’s Victoria Parade, the hotel is perfectly located to welcome leisure and business guests. It offers specialty restaurants and bars, a club lounge, and a 600 sqm ballroom. It also has a gym, swimming pool and spa.
