Taking a break from Christmas shopping at Uptown Mall in BGC, we chanced upon a new restaurant called Fiery Style. Initially I thought it was a Tex-Mex restaurant or a Mexican place. However, a quick look at the menu revealed a lot of spicy dishes from different countries, including Mexico and the Philippines. It even had sisig, which is a local favorite in the Philippines.
TEX-MEX FOOD WITH A PHILIPPINE TOUCH AT FIERY STYLE
Fiery Style is a casual and colourful restaurant, so don’t expect fine dining. But if you’re in the Uptown Mall or BGC area and you happen to be looking for comfort food, this is definitely one delicious option.
I liked the Tex-Mex food like tacos, burritos and enchiladas on the menu. Fiery Style at Uptown Mall in BGC had a good selection of these, and you can order the soft shell taco or the hard shell version.
At the same time, they had original dishes I’d never seen elsewhere.
SISIG WITH BONE MARROW
These included the Philippine favourite dish of sisig, but served with bone marrow for extra richness. Then, there was also a dish of deep-fried squid rings coated in salted egg. The sisig and the squid rings in salted egg were probably our top choices that day.
SISIG, SQUID RINGS, AND TACOS
We were very hungry so we ordered everything that looked good. Happily, nothing disappointed us at all. The sisig and the squid rings made us happy from the start. The sisig was tasty and spicy. Meanwhile, the squid rings were deep-fried perfectly, with just the right amount of coating of salted egg.
Then we tried several tacos including a soft-shell taco with beef short ribs and a hard-shell taco with sisig. The soft-steel taco with beef was refreshing in flavour. However, the highlight was definitely the sisig tacos. I’d never had a sisig taco before, and it was really delicious. The sisig filling went very well with the cripsy taco shell.
HAMBURGERS WITH BLACK SESAME BUNS
Next we tried the hamburger which came with melted cheese and bacon in a black sesame bun. The photo on the menu alone was enough to entice us, and we were so glad we caved in to the burger cravings. The bun was firm on the outside and soft inside, and the burger patty was delicious. The hamburger also came with some spicy twister fries.
SPICY FRIED BANGUS WITH RICE
Finally, before dessert, I just had to try a fish dish simply because the photograph on the menu looked so appealing. At Fiery Style in Uptown Mall in BGC, they offered a milkfish seasoned well with spices and then fried. We ordered rice to go with it and it made for the perfect main course to end lunch. The bangus was so tasty.
CHURROS WITH CHOCOLATE
Of course, there is no such thing as a happy ending without dessert in a Travelife. So we ordered the churros with chocolate and ice cream, and a cheesecake. I’m a churros person so I always like to taste the churros everywhere in my search for the best one.
The churros were cooked only when we ordered these, so these arrived hot and crispy. In other words, exactly how churros should be. Meanwhile, the cheesecake had great flavour and texture.
We were surprised to find this interesting new restaurant in Uptown Mall in BGC, with lots of spicy dishes, a couple of Tex Mex favourites, and some truly original cooking. It’s a mixture of comfort food and creative cooking, set in a colourful venue with the feel of Mexico with culinary influences from the Philippines.
