Christmas at London Zoo is a unique opportunity to experience a series of twinkling light installations after dark on a festive trail around ZSL’s historic London site. The trail takes place in the evening, when the light sculptures will circle the Zoo’s 36 acre site.
Follow the mile-long path through the world-famous attraction to discover a winter wonderland. Giant glowing giraffe, lions, and flamingos will light up the night. Head into the 40-meter-long Light Vortex and marvel at the canopy of over 100,000 glistening pea-lights above you.
Christmas at London Zoo
Discover the mythical Christmas Sledge Tree and its 365 individual sledges – one for each day of the year. As you walk beneath playful ribbons of color-changing lights, listen for the quartet of 30-meter-tall Singing Trees, as glowing fountains dance to Christmas classics at the Penguin Pool.
There are hidden surprises too; look out for frosty snowflakes, shimmering stars, and gigantic baubles where you least expect them. Pause at the Mappin Terraces as Magic Mountain springs to life with playful and colorful projections. Don’t forget to keep a lookout for Father Christmas and his elves along the way.
Complete your stroll with mulled wine or hot chocolate while the aroma of roasting chestnuts fill the air. Then soak up the atmosphere with vintage family rides, before picking up an irresistible gift at ZSL London Zoo’s shop.
Created in partnership with Raymond Gubbay Limited and designed by Culture Creative, the team behind “Christmas at Kew”, the trail features more than two miles of LED cabling, over 200 light projections and hundreds of thousands of individual lights.
