One day on a recent holiday in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, we spent the afternoon enjoying spa treatments and hair treatments at the Boston Day Spa. This spa and beauty salon also has a Moroccan bath and sauna facilities. It is considered one of the best spas in Addis Ababa.
This spa day was perfectly timed, too, as we had a long flight back to Asia on Ethiopian Airlines the next day.
WHERE TO GO FOR A MASSAGE IN ADDIS ABABA
We asked locals where to go for a massage and a facial in Addis. Many of them mentioned the Boston Day Spa along Bole Road, just a few kilometres away from Bole International Airport. This wellness spa is considered one of the best day spas in the city.
Anticipating a long flight back to Asia the next day on Ethiopian Airlines, we booked a Swedish massage, a facial and a hair treatment. Upon arriving at the spa, we immediately observed the unique African vibe. This may be a point of interest to tourists visiting Addis Ababa, looking for a good massage and facial.
UNIQUE AFRICAN DESIGN AND DECOR AT BOSTON DAY SPA
The spa has African decor and paintings everywhere, so you definitely will experience wellness and beauty treatments the African way. The reception area was full of locals — mostly fashionably dressed Ethiopian women. We took this as a good sign as it’s alway good to choose a spa where the locals go.
SWEDISH MASSAGE IN ADDIS ABABA
I began with a 90-minute Swedish massage using a special herbal massage oil. The special herbal massage oil was an add-on to the regular Swedish massage, but the extra cost was definitely worth it. The oil had a lovely smell and my skin felt soft for the rest of the day. My masseuse at the Boston Day Spa told me that this special herbal blend was very good for the skin.
FACIAL USING CLARINS PRODUCTS
Then I had my facial in another room. The therapist used a high-tech steam machine and Clarins facial products. I was very happy that the therapist also gave me the option for an extraction procedure to ensure a complete skin cleanse. The facial also incorporated a comprehensive skin toning massage.
THE TOP HAIR SALON
Finally I proceeded to the hair salon, also within the complex. The salon was full of regular clients, both male and female. I booked the hair treatment which involved a serious hair wash followed by 20 minutes under the steam machine with treatment products slathered on my hair.
DINNER AT THE HYATT REGENCY ADDIS ABABA
Afterwards, my hair was blow-dried for an evening out to dinner at the oriental restaurant of the Hyatt Regency Addis Ababa, which is considered one of the best hotels in Ethiopia.
It was the perfect way to end a happy trip to Ethiopia, with a relaxing afternoon at the Boston Day Spa and then a delicious dinner at the Hyatt Regency Addis Ababa.
