Getting ready for a #Travelife to Russia… |
This morning in Tokyo, living a #Travelife, I woke up with the thought of watching a performance at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow, as I am headed that way sooner than later.
Almost everything is fixed for my trip, save for a couple of loose ends that I trust will find their way to fruition sometime soon.

And before breakfast was even on the table, I’d found a free evening in my pretty busy schedule to go to the Bolshoi Theater.
Of course, I needed to see a performance at the historic theater of the Bolshoi. There are several venues within the Bolshoi Theater including a new theater, but it’s really the historic theater of the Bolshoi that I want to see. And I wanted a front-row seat in one of the boxes.

Ideally, too, it would be nice to watch a famous ballet performance at the Bolshoi as this is what the Bolshoi is known for.
But I checked the listings and this month and next, the Bolshoi actually has few ballet performances but the Russian opera Boris Godunov is going to be performed in the historic theater of the Bolshoi.

If there is one opera you should watch in Russia, and especially in Moscow, it should be one of two Russian operas: Boris Godunov, which is a story linked to Michael Romanov, the first Romanov czar, and to the founding of the Romanov empire; or a Life for the Tsar, a Russian opera composed by Mikhail Glinka and first performed in 1836.
In fact, in the era of Imperial Russia, Boris Godunov or A Life for the Tsar was often performed as part of celebrations of the Romanov dynasty.
I would’ve paid top dollar to get literally the best seat in the house for a performance of Boris Godunov in the Bolshoi Theater of Moscow.

Unfortunately, my timing was off.
Instead there’s a decent opera on, but not one that I would choose voluntarily from among the many I might have watched. But as we only have one remaining free evening in Moscow, living a #Travelife, we booked these last best seats available in the Bolshoi in Moscow for a performance.
