On January 26th, The Bellevue Resort has been celebrated as an ASEAN Green Hotel Standard Awardee from 2016-2018 at the ASEAN Tourism Standards held at Chiang Mai, Thailand. Dustin Chan, Managing Director of The Bellevue Resort, received the award on behalf of The Bellevue Hotels and Resorts.
Bellevue especially began to implement green initiatives when it opened the first 5-star hotel in Bohol, Philippines in 2012 — The Bellevue Resort. Adapting simple actions like waste segregation, coastal clean-up schedules and tree planting programs were integrated into the hotel’s regular operations.
“We cannot just go on operating business-as-usual without minding our industrial footprint”, remarked Dustin Chan. For The Bellevue Hotels and Resorts’ Management, it is clear — the effects of climate change cannot be ignored. What started as simple actions have now evolved to more complex policies that are aggressive in lessening the resort’s footprint. The Green Procurement Policy, for instance, implements the purchase of only environmentally and socially responsible materials.
The Bellevue Resort also has its own greenhouse located in front of the Bellevue Pavilion. This is where they produce their own organically grown lettuce, cherry tomatoes, eggplants, herbs and other vegetables — making the farm-to-market concept a reality for their diners. Other efforts include the purchase of anaerobic composting machines, its own sewage treatment plant (STP), switching to LED lights, and yearly participation in the Earth Hour initiative.
Dustin Chan also believes that by engaging the resort staff, the discipline of environmental mindfulness will spread within the resort and, in the future, impact the Boholano community in Panglao.
On January 31st, The Bellevue Resort was also awarded the ASEAN MICE Venue Standards 2018-2020 in an event held in Manila, Philippines. The Bellevue Resort was the only recipient of the prestigious accolade among MICE venues in Bohol — making it a truly coveted title in the hospitality industry. Present to receive the award on behalf of The Bellevue Resort was Sales Director Amie Villena.
