Watching a flamenco show in Madrid at the Tablao Villa Rosa

The Tablao Villa Rosa is the oldest flamenco venue in Madrid and we highly recommend an evening here for a show and dinner in Madrid on your next trip to Spain.

The Tablao Villa Rosa in Madrid

In Madrid over the weekend, living a #Travelife, I went to watch a flamenco show at the Tablao Villa Rosa. Initially I thought it would just be a typical Spanish tourist show, but I booked it anyway as it seemed like an interesting way to spend an evening in Madrid.

My friend Javier, who lives in Madrid, accompanied me. Just my luck, he's a real flamenco enthusiast as well as a Spanish guitar player. The Spanish guitar thing runs in his family, too, as his uncle is very much into the development of the perfect Spanish guitar.

WALKING ALL OVER MADRID

The Westin Palace Madrid

We walked over to the Tablao Villa Rosa from my hotel, the Westin Palace Madrid. I always stay at the Westin Palace Madrid, by the way, because it has the best location for a luxury hotel in Madrid. It's right in the middle so you have the busy commercial center for shopping and the old town on one side, and the more glamorous side of Madrid, with the Prado Museum and the Retiro Park, on the other.

Oh yes, and it's right next to the Thyssen Museum too.

The Tablao Villa Rosa is about a eight-minute walk from the Westin Palace Madrid, just off the Plaza Sta. Ana, which is a really pretty square in Madrid full of nice cafes and restaurants, by the way.

When we reached the Tablao Villa Rosa, we ordered dinner from the menu so that we could eat a little before the show started. We ordered the usual Spanish fare -- Jamon Iberico, chipirones, calamares, and paella. Then I ordered a Tinto Verano to wash everything down, while Javier got a beer.

THE PASSION OF FLAMENCO

Then the flamenco show started and it was completely mesmerizing. Of course, many tourists are interested in the flamenco but this is definitely not just a show for tourists. There may be some flamenco centers that are basically tourist joints, but at the Tablao Villa Rossa, you can definitely see the passion and the effort with which the flamenco dancers and the flamenco guitarist undertake their craft.

Spanish guitar player in Madrid

I could not take my eyes off the stage the entire evening. And after the show, I refused to stand up. Fortunately, the Spanish guitar player decided to go back on stage and do one more song. By then we were the only ones in the audience and I loved it, so lucky to be in Madrid last weekend, living a #Travelife.
