Visiting Ethiopia: where to go, what to see and the best places to stay. And about the Kuriftu Resort and Spa in Debrezeit.

Travelife Magazine General Manager Gel Bayona spent New Year holidays in Ethiopia doing groundwork for our upcoming #Travelife to Ethiopia, this exotic, hot destination for 2016 and 2017. If you've been almost everywhere in the world already, let us plan an upcoming Travelife to Ethiopia for you.

From Ethiopia, Gel sent this update: "To end my year full of wonderful Travelife adventures, I decided to celebrate my New Year with an epic adventure to Ethiopia, a country in Africa that is so full of soul, energy and history."

She added: "It's the next exotic destination for adventurers and sophisticated travelers who are looking for more off-the-beaten places to visit."

This country in East Africa that is known as the cradle of civilization is home to nine UNESCO world heritage sites.

In this sense, I would say that Ethiopia is a truly blessed land of contrasts and extremes -- from mountains and plains that range as far as my eyes can see to the lowest and hottest depths of the earth situated 116 meters below sea level.

My journey began right upon the arrival at the Bole International airport in Addis Ababa, where I was met by my guide and then immediately we drove out into the wilderness, to the luxury Kuriftu Resort and Spa at Debrezeit, just an hour away from Addis Ababa.

Here I spent my first day in Ethiopia relaxing: I tried my hand at some adventurous kayaking in the beautiful serenity of Lake Kuriftu, after which I had the most amazing spa treatment and a wonderful meal.

The Kuriftu Resort and Spa is one of the nicest places to stay within easy driving distance of Addis Ababa.

It's not over-the-top glamorous, as few places in Ethiopia really are, but the Kuriftu Resort and Spa offers comfortable accommodations, great amenities and ambiance, with views of the lake and the mountain ridges.

Kayaking on Lake Kuriftu followed by some time at the spa in the Kuriftu Resort and Spa was the perfect way to chill out after a long flight from Asia, and to get re-energized for the rest of my trip, discovering the best of Ethiopia, living a #Travelife.
