DAYTRIP TO ADDIS ABABA

From Ethiopia, living a #Travelife, Gel sent this report: "My second day in Ethiopia was a day trip to Addis Ababa where we were able to explore the Merkato, Africa’s largest open air market.

The Merkato of Addis Ababa is a one stop shop for a shopaholic like me. It's got everything, from carpets and spices, to gadgets, meats and poultry."

THE VIEW FROM MOUNT ENTOTO
IN ADDIS ABABA

"Apart from shopping at the Merkato, one of the highlights of Addis Ababa is going up to Mount Entoto for a panoramic view of Addis Ababab and its neighboring towns.

Another must-see is the visit to the National Museum of Ethiopia where the remnants of Lucy, one of the earliest skeletons ever found, is on display."

VISITING LALIBELA
FROM ADDIS ABABA

"If you have a couple more days to spare, don’t miss making a side trip to fly out of Addis Ababa and visit Lalibela where the 2nd Jerusalem in Africa is found. This remarkable place is considered the 8th wonder of the world and a UNESCO World Heritage.

Lalibela was once thrive as the medieval city during King Solomon’s time, and what an experience it truly was to see the famous eleven churches of Lalibela carved in from one solid rock."

"The churches were built in the 12th century during the reign of King Lalibela, but even now pilgrims and people are still worshipping inside and outside the churches as these are still considered sacred.

It's quite an amazing sight, to see the pilgrims in white standing alongside the perimeters of these ancient churches in Lalibela, deep devotion etched on their faces."

"This visit to Lalibela was a wonderful way to end my 2015 Travelife. I was right in the middle of Ethiopia, a beautiful country of kind people and exotic wilderness that should be on your bucketlist of places to go to this 2016."
