A Christmas markets cruise on the AmaPrima boat of award-winning AMA Waterways. And the best cruises on AMA Waterways for 2016.

Gluwine to welcome you back from a chilly day
walking the Christmas markets somewhere...

Good evening from a lovely boat called the AmaPrima, run by the award-winning AMA Waterways company, sailing along the Danube River, where I'm happily living a #Travelife.

My friends and I are on a Christmas markets cruise, and so far we have been very lucky with everything

The sailing experience has been very enjoyable and the weather has held up very nicely since Day 1. It's usually hit or miss when you're going for winter in Europe, and most days will have rain and clouds.

But so far, at least each day here has been generally sunny at midday, not horribly freezing, and raining very intermittently and at the most convenient times. For example, our worst rain and snow happened only when we were in a van driving from Prague to Nuremberg to board our boat docked in Nuremberg.

Then yesterday it rained for about ten minutes as we stood under a gate at the Christmas market in Regensburg, talking to fellow passengers.

The captain personally handed out roses
to every female guest on the first evening onboard the AmaPrima...

A PROPOSAL FOR A CHRISTMAS CRUISE COMES TRUE
WITH A NICE START AT THE FOUR SEASONS PRAGUE

This Christmas markets cruise was my proposal and it took awhile to plan especially as my friends and I all live such busy lives

That's me at the Four Seasons Prague last week,
living a #Travelife...

But one day last week we all landed in Prague via different routes and different airlines, and pretty soon we were all saying hello and "long time no-see" to each other in the intimate and beautiful lobby of the Four Seasons Prague, my favourite hotel in Prague.

I arranged for a private tour of Prague for us which was very nice as we got to do everything we wanted at the pace we wanted, and then go for dinners at Michelin-starred restaurants afterwards.

THE INTERIORS OF
THE AMA PRIMA

That's the corridor to our rooms...

The AmaPrima is a lovely ship, very nicely appointed and comfortable. It's one of the prettiest river boats plying the Danube.

Of course, by necessity it's smaller and narrower than most ocean vessels as it is a river ship that must be narrow enough to pass through the narrowest stretches of the rivers and river locks it traverses.

WHAT NARROW MEANS
IN ANY LANGUAGE

I've just included here a photo of our ship going through one of the locks, so you'll have an idea of just how narrow a path we are talking about.

We have 27 river locks to get through on our cruise along the Danube River, by the way.

So be prepared for a scaled down experience in terms of ocean liners, although I think a top river ship like the AmaPrima is very much comparable to the small expedition vessels of luxury cruise lines like Silver Sea.

WHAT THE CABINS ON
THE AMA PRIMA ARE LIKE

So the cabins are not as big as the large suites of the luxury ocean vessels, but the larger rooms on this boat are actually huge for river boats and they certainly are more spacious than the average cabin of a typical ocean vessel as well.

-------------------------------------------

For a very finicky person regarding accommodations, I find the design of the AmaPrima is very user-friendly as well, with a very nice layout for both the room and the bathroom.

And I love the way everything is so intimate so everywhere is just a short walk.

THE BEST SERVICE ON A RIVER SHIP

The crew introduces themselves
on Day 1...

But the best thing about this AmaPrima cruise is the service

They don't have private butler service per cabin on this ship because of size constraints, but this team is among the friendliest and most pro-active ship team I've ever met. Most requests are done in a couple of minutes and if you ring for help, there's almost always a knock on your door within five minutes.

Everyone is simply wonderful and I'll save the stories about them for later, as we have lots more sailing days left on this cruise down the Danube before hitting Budapest, living a never-ending, and never-endingly eventful #Travelife.

PS: Here are some recommendations for AMA Waterways cruises in 2016:
