What a wonderful way to start my first day back at work, in Manila, living a #Travelife.
After a morning spent sorting out paperwork, I headed over to the Old Manila of the Peninsula Manila for an intimate lunch hosted by Peninsula Manila General Manager Sonja Vodusek to launch the year-long festivities to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Peninsula Manila in September 2016.

AN INTIMATE LUNCH
WITH A STELLAR CROWD
Present at this lunch were the board of directors of the Peninsula Manila and some of the hotel's biggest supporters and closest friends.
The important editors and columnists of major publications were there as well, along with some ladies who had helped to make the Peninsula Manila what it is today, including former PR director Mila Magsaysay-Valenzuela.
I was seated at the table of GM Sonja Vodusek, and at my end of the table were Peter Go, a member of the Peninsula board of directors, and his daughter Ginny; columnists Cito Beltran and Tim Yap, and Cindy Yap-Huang.
A DISCUSSION ABOUT TRAVEL,
MONEY AND THE GOOD OLD DAYS.We had a very nice time discussing everything under the sun, including my upcoming #Travelife to Morocco with 35 friends and my recent trip across Japan, meeting Gina Lollobrigida and Sophia Loren, the implications of marrying into money -- what an interesting subject that was -- and the good old days when a cup of coffee in the lobby of the Peninsula Manila cost only five pesos.

MY MEMORIES OF THE PENINSULA MANILA.
AND REMEMBERING THE OPENING OF THE SALON DE NING.
Of course we also talked about our favourite Peninsula memories. I have too many to count, but over lunch today, I remembered the opening party of the Salon de Ning.
This was definitely the party of the year. We danced all night, sampled way too much champagne and together with Jonathan Crook, former Peninsula Manila GM, and his lovely wife Beliz, we closed the place (and the party!) down at about 5 AM, with breakfast at the lobby as the sun was coming up.

The food was wonderful, and rightfully so, as the hotel's top chefs had created each dish themselves. I especially loved the starter of a cold poached blue lobster with cauliflower mousse and Osssietra caviar.
Then before I knew it, it was 3 PM, and time to return to work before heading out again, this time for a party hosted by the Ambassador of Malaysia, living a #Travelife...
