Summer in Copenhagen with great weather, good food, and the midyear sales.

Good evening from beautiful Copenhagen, living a #Travelife.

We had simply beautiful weather today: crisp, cool, sunny and bright. In the summer months of July and August, there really is no better place to be than Northern Europe -- especially in recent years, when heat waves have made Southern Europe quite uncomfortable.

TRAVELING
ACCORDING TO SEASONS

I'm very much a seasonal traveler unless there's some reason to travel outside my "seasonal schedule." I always spend the spring months of April and May in Japan and July in Europe because the weather is so pleasant.

I never travel to Scandinavia except in July, when it's the most perfect place to be.

ALWAYS IN JULY,
NEVER IN AUGUST

August in Europe, including even in Scandinavia, sometimes gets too hot and it's overrun by tourists. And in August, the summer sales are over and the good restaurants are closed because the chefs are all on summer break, to return at the end of August or early September.

So Denmark in July is the best. It's not yet too crowded and everything is open.

REMEMBERING MY LAST HOLIDAY
IN COPENHAGEN

The last time I was in Copenhagen for a significant amount of time (and not just a long weekend) was about ten years ago, also in July, when we did a very nice holiday.

We went to all the good restaurants and then rented bikes to go around town and explore the outlying areas.

Then, after our Copenhagen holiday, we took a car from the Hotel D'Angleterre to a port near the statue of the Little Mermaid and boarded a Silversea cruise ship that was headed for Estonia, Russia, Norway and Sweden.

CHILLING OUT IN COPENHAGEN
THIS JULY

This time, it's just a chill trip full of good food and lots of walking.

But I'm liking it so much that I thought that one day I would like to rent an apartment by the water for an entire summer and live like a local here.

Maybe I'll combine this with my plans for the Arctic in the summer of 2016, living a never-ending, and never-endingly eventful #Travelife.
