It's 1980s attire at the opening night of the musical Bituing Walang Ningning at Resorts World Manila

Tonight in Manila, living a #Travelife, I attended the gala opening of the musical "Bituing Walang Ningning" at Resorts World.

This is a pet project of Resorts World top boss Kingson Sian together with Vic del Rosario of Viva Films, and it's a stage re-make of the hit Philippine movie in the 1980s that catapulted Sharon Cuneta to stardom.

Appropriately, the invitations to the gala night encouraged 1980s attire.

As I'd been at lunch with a client today and then I'd spent the afternoon in a series of meetings, I came in my uniform black and was perhaps the most inappropriately dressed guest for a 1980s event tonight.

However, I enjoyed the musical thoroughly, especially the singing and the way the sets were so cleverly managed using minimal props and technology.

I haven't heard Tagalog songs in a long time, either, and Cris Villonco, Mark Bautista and Monica Cuenca did excellent renditions of these old hits.

The musical is very long, but time passes quickly for the most part as the pacing is fast. It only slows down somewhat in the second half where the dialog can use some more editing.

But all in all a very enjoyable performance, especially for those who want to revisit the 1980s and the age of OPM, which, in a way, is another sort of never-endingly eventful #Travelife.
