A sayonara dinner for two wonderful general managers at the Old Manila of the Peninsula Manila

Last night in Manila, living a Travelife, I was a guest at a dinner hosted by Peninsula General Manager Sonja Vodusek in honour of two other hotel general managers in Manila: Alex Willats of the Dusit Thani Manila and Richard Simmons of the Hyatt Regency Manila.

The dinner was held at the Old Manila, which looks lovely after its recent renovation.

We had a long table in one corner of the restaurant, and we had a truly enjoyable evening staying from 7 PM until close to midnight, talking mostly about Travel and Life.

A NEW CHEF
WITH GREAT NEW FOOD

The new chef of the Old Manila is certainly doing justice to its reputation.

I had a salad and the burrata with tomatoes to start, and both of these were just delicious.

The salad was especially nice, as it was simple but layered so delicately with different flavours.

I'd just had another salad that same day, you see, that was all leaves and oil with no depth, so this salad at the Old Manila stood out for me.

TWO STEAKS IN A DAY

Steak # 1 yesterday, living a Travelife

For a main dish, I had my second large steak for the day, since I'd just shared a New Zealand rib-eye with the Travel Companion at lunch

Steak # 2 yesterday, living a Travelife

For dinner, I chose the wagyu strip loin, which was tender and flavourful and not very fatty -- unlike typical wagyu.

To accompany this, I chose the cauliflower gratin, which came with lots of gooey cheese -- just the way I like it.

SWEETS FOR THE SWEET

And then to end, our part of the table ordered the chocolate fondant which took 20 minutes to make but was certainly worth it.

The chocolate fondant was just right -- crispy on the outside and melty and hot on the inside. It was accompanied by a rather sour yoghurt ice cream that made for an interesting and refreshing combination.

EVERYONE'S LIVING A TRAVELIFE
AT THE PENINSULA MANILA

With my three favourite hotel general managers in Manila,
living a Travelife.

Close to midnight, we headed out into the lobby of the Peninsula, where things were still in full swing in spite of the rather late hour.

Musicians were playing, people were enjoying themselves in tables all around the lobby, and the whole place was a-glitter with a giant Christmas tree and silver decor everywhere.

We happily took way too many photos together, before calling it a night, on just another wonderful evening in my never-ending, and never-endingly eventful Travelife.
