A pre-holiday dinner hosted by the Ambassador of China at the Peninsula Manila, and about being two times lucky.

at the Peninsula Manila

Tonight, there I was back at the Peninsula Manila, living a Travelife.

I really should have moved into the Peninsula this week, as I've been at this lovely hotel every single day since Sunday, for an event or an appointment.

And this will be the case for the rest of the holiday season, as there is the very grand annual Christmas concert of the Peninsula this weekend. This is a Christmas tradition I love and one I never miss as long as I'm in Manila.

CHRISTMAS IS IN THE AIR

I must say, it feels very Christmas-y to walk into the Peninsula lobby, which is the grandest hotel lobby in Manila, and to see everything aglow with Christmas decor and to listen to the orchestra playing all night.

This really gets me into the holiday mood.

THE CHINESE AMBASSADOR'S HOLIDAY DINNER

Tonight, I attended the pre-holiday dinner hosted by the new Chinese ambassador, His Excellence Zhao Jianhua. I was great friends with his predecessor, and I was looking forward very much to saying hello to him tonight.

It was a rather intimate sit-down dinner, and I was seated right at the ambassador's table together with some bigwigs from the Chinese community in Binondo

It was very interesting and enjoyable.

A LUCKY STREAK

I asked Kevin Lapena, Travelife's Business Development Manager, to accompany me tonight, and he was seated at another table.

But before he escorted me to my seat and then left to to sit elsewhere, I'd said to him: "If you win the trip to Beijing tonight, I think I'm going to do cartwheels around this room."

WINNING A TRIP TO DOHA LAST NIGHT

Kevin won a trip to Doha last night

Together with Travelife General Manager Angelica Bayona, we'd attended the farewell dinner for outgoing Qatar Airlines Country Manager Abdallah Okasha the previous night, also at the Peninsula.

At this party, Kevin had actually won a trip for two, hotels and tours included, to Doha.

TWO TIMES LUCKY IS JUST IMPOSSIBLE

He couldn't possibly win two trips in a row, I thought.

I knew the Chinese ambassador was giving away a trip to Beijing tonight, but the odds were certainly stacked against Kevin's winning another trip two days in a row.

I mean -- how could anyone be so lucky, right?

EVERYONE IN TRAVELIFE
IS LIVING A TRAVELIFE

So, you can imagine how I almost fell off my seat when Kevin's name was called for the grand prize of a trip to Beijing.

I'm almost certain that he couldn't believe it either.

But that just goes to show you how everyone at Travelife Magazine is definitely living a never-ending Travelife.

HOW DOES HE DO THAT???

As for me, I enjoyed the dinner at the table of the Ambassador, as well as the mind-boggling magic show the Chinese embassy arranged as entertainment

There I was, seated right in front of the magician, and I could not for the life of me figure out how he was undertaking these magic tricks.

I asked Ambassador Zhao: "Have you seen this magic show before?"

It was really amazing, particularly as we were so up close and none of us could figure out his tricks.

Ambassador responded in the negative, and he seemed just as entertained as me, or perhaps at me and my incredulous expressions, on just another wonderful evening in my never-ending, and never-endingly eventful Travelife.
