A party hosted by the Thai Ambassador and a Chinese lumpia holiday dinner at my neighbour's house tonight

Chinese lumpia tonight with friends

In Manila tonight, living a Travelife, I began the evening by attending the cocktail party hosted by the Ambassador of Thailand in honour of the birthday of the King of Thailand.

It was at this party that I met an old friend, one of the most successful businessmen in the Philippines, and we talked about Travel and Life.

I told him about my recent trip to Morocco while he told me about a visit he'd done to Jordan, which he had so enjoyed.

A LOVELY DINNER PARTY

Then I had a really wonderful evening as a guest at a dinner hosted by one of my neighbours, who also happens to be a close friend.

We were a table of eight, and we so enjoyed her dinner and the conversation among us, that we stayed way past midnight, talking about Travel and Life.

Still on sale until December 15. Scroll down to read more...

CONVERSATIONS ABOUT THE WORLD

And we discussed lots of other things as well.

It was really nice to be able to sit at a dinner table in Manila and to talk about lots of things happening in the world -- from the influence of religion on world events to the evils of any form of extremism.

A BEAUTIFUL HOME

Meanwhile, my neighbour had decorated her home so prettily, as always, with the kind of Christmas decor not often seen in Manila.

She and her husband had also picked up a beautiful new artwork which she hung in a hallway and which I so admired -- so much so that, throughout dinner, I kept thinking about this artwork, and about also buying some more art.

THE BEST CHINESE LUMPIA I'VE EVER HAD

The dinner itself was supposed to be casual. "Just my grandmother's Chinese lumpia recipe," she'd texted me, when the dinner was being arranged.

Well, this was the most elaborate Chinese lumpia I've ever had. And we all had fun making our own versions of it.

WAY TOO MANY GOOD THINGS TO EAT

Before the lumpia, we had all sorts of wonderful appetizers from a buffet table.

And then after the lumpia, we had Hainan chicken, followed by a dessert of lychee sorbet and an assortment of sweets.

With all the good conversation, the relaxed atmosphere of the company at the table, and the excellent food, I ate way too much than was good for me, in my never-ending, and never-endingly delicious Travelife.
