A birthday dinner with two friends tonight

Tonight I'm having the first of a series of birthday dinners and lunches that are going to take place in Manila and Tokyo over the next two weeks.

Actually, everything started last night, Friday night, as I'd had a nice, relaxing dinner with a couple I like very much.

We were set to have dinner and I just decided to invite them over to my house as I thought Friday night traffic would be terrible. So it was really just a casual end-of-the-week sort of thing.

But in my mind, it was already a birthday dinner. So I prepared all the food I liked and that I knew they liked, and we talked happily around my table all night.

And actually, I've been having friends for dinner at home all week. Last night was the fourth dinner I hosted at home this week alone.

EVERY DAY IS CELEBRATED LIKE A BIRTHDAY

I'm not very big on actually celebrating my birthday. But with this as an excuse, it's just nice to see friends.

As one guy told me today: "You live everyday like it's your birthday."

That's true. Almost every day is happy, nice and eventful in my never-ending Travelife. So I don't really need to single out one day to celebrate life.

A JOINT BIRTHDAY DINNER

But tonight, one of the other guys has a birthday near mine, so I decided to make this an advanced birthday dinner for us both.

I was tasked with choosing a venue, and for once I felt like having it in a restaurant.

When I'm in Manila, unless I'm invited out or to an event, I like having people over to my home as I get to enjoy it very little these days, living a never-ending Travelife.

Besides, I eat out in restaurants almost every day of the year, so it's nice to eat in my own dining table sometimes.

A CELEBRATION FOR ME TOO

And, as tonight is a sort of a celebration for me as well, I didn't want to have to think about cooking or entertaining.

So I chose a restaurant that serves good food, and it's a dress-up place in a traditional way.

The few times I've eaten at this restaurant in the past 12 months, I've had only good memories. So I thought it'd be a nice place for a dinner with two guys, living a Travelife.

LOTS OF WINE TONIGHT

Then, I reminded each of them to bring a bottle of wine as I feel like drinking wine tonight.

I'm generally very good about alcohol; although last night, my guests and I finished off a very nice bottle of red that they'd brought.

But tonight, I feel like just relaxing, talking about Travel and Life over wine in a nice restaurant, living a never-ending, and never-endingly eventful Travelife.
