Breakfast with the Bedouins organised by the Raffles Dubai

On my next trip to Dubai, living a Travelife, I plan to experience an honest-to-goodness Bedouin breakfast right in the desert.

This is one of the interesting cultural experiences being offered by the Raffles Dubai.

HANGING AROUND DUBAI'S DESERT
AT SUNRISE

Dubai lends itself perfectly to early mornings, and especially the desert.

We all know how nice the desert is at sunset, when the colours make themselves apparent on the sand dunes.

One of the must-do activities for visitors to Dubai, after all, is to get on a 4WD and drive up and down sand dunes as the sun sets.

But apparently it's also lovely to experience the desert just before the heat of the midday sun comes into full force.

Not just after the heat of the midday sun.

THE SCHEDULE
FOR BREAKFAST WITH THE BEDOUINS

The breakfast with the Bedouins experience involves rising early and escaping Dubai under the cover of darkness, while everyone is still fast asleep.

The destination?

The desert – all rolling sand dunes and striking silhouettes as dawn rises -- for a wake-me-up sand safari experience before heading for a local Bedouin retreat to learn breakfast recipes handed down from generation to generation.

And to have breakfast with the Bedouins, of course.

OTHER THINGS TO DO
IN DUBAI'S DESERT

There are so many other things to do as well.

I was told that I can hop on board a camel for a different ride across the dunes, try my hand at falconry, and then experience traditional Yowalah dancing -- all before enjoying a delicious home-made breakfast at sunrise.

This certainly sounds like my kind of Travelife: the opportunity to glimpse the rich, authentic history of Dubai in pristine desert surroundings, before returning to the bright lights, hustle and heat of one of the most exciting cities in the world.
