Strawberry milk is best-selling product for online shopping in Japan

Online shopping is big in Japan, where people are time-poor, Internet is high-speed, and delivery infrastructure is efficient and cheap.

One of the best-selling products at Rakuten, Japan's biggest online shopping mall, is a box of sweets called strawberry milk, from a sweets shop called Frantz in the city of Kobe.

FOREIGNERS IN JAPAN

Kobe is a city in western Japan, about 30 minutes away from Osaka.

It's considered a haven for Western-style sweets because this city has long been a settling place for foreigners since the turn of last century.

THE BEGINNINGS OF MOROZOFF CHOCOLATES

In fact, one of the most successful chocolate brands in Japan is Morozoff.

Morozoff is a brand of a chocolate company that began in Kobe, started by the descendants of a family of white Russians who had fled Russia during the Russian revolution.

UNIVERSAL POPULARITY

Interestingly, strawberry milk is selling like hotcakes, both with men and women.

What's so great about it? You might be asking.

Apparently, customers love the combination of the sweetness of chocolate and the sourness of the strawberries.

TALK ABOUT A SWEET BUSINESS

A 100 gram box of strawberry milk costs approximately US$8 (800 yen).

This is not just a fad, either.

Frantz sells over 100,000 boxes of strawberry milk every year, and approximately 800 pieces of strawberry milk a day.

Not a bad business, don't you think?

In fact, a rather sweet business in a never-ending, and never-endingly eventful Travelife.
