Christmas comes late. Or early? A great set of earphones as a Christmas present from Mr. Jaded

So it seems everyone is back from their trips -- or rather, from their never-ending Travelife.

Including me.

Even my friend Mr. Jaded just returned from a long trip to somewhere exotic, with elegant villas and dancing women.

CHRISTMAS ISN'T OVER
TILL IT'S OVER

I knew he was back because I got a belated Christmas present from him today, sent to my home with a nice card saying: "Better late than never."

What a surprise.

I'd totally forgotten about getting a Christmas gift from him, especially as I'd seen him over the holidays and he'd already given me a bottle of wine.

But then I remembered that he'd mentioned something about a Christmas gift coming later.

SERIOUS THOUGHT INTO A GIFT

This was after I'd given him my Christmas gift, which I'd actually thought long and hard about, before choosing it for him.

I thought it was something he could use in his never-ending Travelife.

And when I'd given it to him over Christmas, I'd said: "This was chosen especially for you. I didn't just go to the store and buy ten of these to give out."

Being Mr. Jaded, you see, I know he's always cynical about people buying gifts by the dozens and then just handing these out to everyone.

SURPRISE, SURPRISE

So anyway, I opened my very last Christmas gift of the year today.

It was a pair of noise-canceling earphones for my iPad and iPod.

How absolutely wonderful.

I don't know if he got this because he'd remembered a conversation we had once, on an airplane.

A WHOLE NEW WORLD

But getting this pair of earphones made me remember how he once made me try on this gigantic pair of headphones that he brought on a trip we'd done together.

These giant state-of-the-art headphones made the whole world seem absolutely silent and peaceful.

I'd said to him then: "I love it. But they're just too big for me to bring around."

And that was the end of our conversation.

And today, I got this great pair of small and ultra-light earphones to use in my never-ending, and never-endingly eventful Travelife.
