The amazing, and amazingly kind Patti Austin, at Solaire Resorts for the benefit of Typhoon Haiyan victims and Habitat for Humanity

Between Christmas and New Year's Eve, one of the most enjoyable things I did in a week full of very enjoyable events, was to attend the concert of Patti Austin at Solaire Resorts.

This concert featured Patti Austin as the main performer, with Lea Salonga, Martin Nievera and Richard Merck as special guests.

CONCERT FOR A GOOD CAUSE

All ticket sales went to Habitat for Humanity, specifically to help rebuild the homes of those affected by the recent Typhoon Haiyan -- also known as Typhoon Yolanda in the Philippines.

What a wonderful concert this was.

BACK TO HIGH SCHOOL

I used to like Patti Austin in a previous lifetime.

Like many others, I grew up listening to her songs. As Lea Salonga herself said: "Listening to Patti Austin tonight brought me back to high school."

Well, that's how I felt, as well.

She sang all her old hits and a couple of new ones like my favorite "Test of Time." But the standout fact is that her voice is just amazing, even after all these years.

YOU CAN'T FAKE SINCERITY AND KINDNESS

What's also amazing is her sincerity and kindness, which really comes across, especially when you are seated in the 2nd row.

You see everything from the 2nd row -- and all I saw in her eyes and in her manner were a wonderful generosity and kindness.

Patti Austin talked endlessly about the disaster and how she wanted to help the victims, and you knew just by looking at her up-close that this was no lip-service.

This was the real deal.

LEA SALONGA ROCKS.

The other enjoyable revelation was Lea Salonga herself.

Lea probably has one of the most beautiful and most powerful voices I've ever heard.

However, I have to admit that I have not listened to her much simply because I am not the type to listen to too many emotional Broadway songs.

For the concert, however, she actually sang a Lady Gaga song, but in a very fresh and different way.

Boy, did she rock. Even I like Lady Gaga's songs now, after hearing Lea's version.

PATTI AUSTIN MOVES THE AUDIENCE

Towards the end, Patti Austin sang a beautiful song with the Sinagtala Children's Choir.

This brought shivers and tears to everyone, especially with the powerful images onscreen of the aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan.

At the end of it all, you really wanted to do more to help the victims of Typhoon Haiyan, even if you probably had already done so.

A TRAVELIFE SORT OF EVENING

Congratulations to Solaire Resorts and its partners for this truly wonderful concert.

It certainly made December 29 another very enjoyable evening in my never-ending, and never-endingly eventful Travelife.
