Johnny Litton hosts a farewell dinner for the Ambassador of Indonesia at UMU

Tonight, in Manila living a Travelife, I attended a farewell dinner for outgoing Ambassador Kristiarto Legowo of Indonesia and his wife Caecilia, at the UMU Japanese restaurant of the Dusit Thani.

The very lovely and delicious dinner was hosted by Johnny Litton, and he booked out the whole main room of Umu for this dinner.

WHAT A BEAUTIFUL TABLE

When I arrived, most of the other guests were there already and the very long table that ran across the entire restaurant was set so beautifully.

It was such an enjoyable dinner party because we all knew each other even if Johnny -- Tito J, as I like to call him -- had gathered friends of the Legowos from all walks of life in the small world of Manila society.

The Legowos are among the most popular diplomatic couples in Manila.

A WONDERFUL EVENING OF
GOOD FOOD AND GREAT MUSIC

The table had several ambassadors and also Chief Justice and Mrs. Artemio Panganiban, but it was very relaxed and fun.

At the end of the dinner, there was even a lot of spirited singing as not a few of the guests proved to be very talented in singing.

SURPRISE, SURPRISE

However the biggest surprise of the night was Ambassador Kristiarto Legowo himself.

I always knew he could sing and play musical instruments.

In fact, at one of the parties I'd organized, he'd been persuaded to go on stage and sing a couple of Elvis Presley songs.

But tonight, he actually sang a Filipino song in absolutely flawless Tagalog. Everyone listened open-mouthed, including myself.

The song was so beautiful, too.

It's a popular song called "Bakit Ngayon Ka Lang," and Ambassador Legowo sang it so wonderfully that I looked for it on You Tube when I got home a few minutes ago.

Sharing a laugh at the end of the evening...

OUR SOUTH AFRICA TRIP REALLY LOOKS EXCITING

Another happy turn of events is the fact that at least five of the guests tonight are joining me for the Travelife trip to South Africa in May.

So tonight we were all talking about diamonds and safaris, for when we go on a Travelife to South Africa in a few months.

AFRICA THREE TIMES IN THREE MONTHS

I'll actually be in South Africa again in about five weeks' time, and tonight I just booked a wonderful train trip across Africa that I've been wanting to do for a long time.

But more on that in a later blog entry, as that's another story in my never-ending, and never-endingly eventful Travelife.
