Best of a Travelife 2013: Shopping at the La Roca Village outlet mall near Barcelona. And an Amazona bag in Valencia.

TIME WON'T GIVE ME TIME...

I never have time to go shopping when I'm at home, so ocassionally, I love going shopping when I'm on my never-ending Travelife.

It's great fun to look for unusual finds and to get a local shopping experience at a destination.

I even love going to supermarkets, and I try to pick up local foods and spices to experiment with back home.

MY FAVORITE SHOPPING EXPERIENCES FOR 2013

When thinking about my favorite shopping experiences for 2013, these were among the shortlist:

1) Shopping in Vietnam on a girls' weekend trip to Saigon/ Ho Chi Minh
    (March 2013)
2) Two hours of shopping during a sale in Bordeaux, France
    (June 2013)
3) The great Japan summer sale in Osaka
    (August 2013)

THE LA ROCA VILLAGE IN BARCELONA

But the day we spent at the La Roca Village Outlet Mall just outside Barcelona was probably my #1 shopping experience for 2013.

This is the biggest and best outlet mall in this general area of Spain.

There's another La Roca Village Outlet Mall just outside Madrid, but we didn't have enough time to go.

We decided to spend our last day in Barcelona, living a Travelife, doing some shopping at La Roca Village.

La Roca is only about 30 minutes away from Barcelona proper.

THE CHIC OUTLET SHOPPING EXPERIENCE
IN BARCELONA

This is part of the Chic Outlet Shopping Villages in Europe.

They also have outlet shopping villages in Madrid and in Ingolstadt, Germany.

Two years ago, when I got "dragged" into visiting the Audi factory in Ingolstadt, I made sure to include the outlet in Ingolstadt in our itinerary as a compromise.

But the Barcelona outlet mall has nice local upscale and midrange brands beginning with luxury leather purveyor Loewe at the top all the way to Dessigual for midrange.

EVERYTHING ELSE BUT SHOPPING

Until that day at the La Roca Village in Barcelona, we had been very good about shopping. Or actually, about not shopping.

Instead, we concentrated on the food, the art, the museums and the history. In Spain, living a Travelife.

So on the way to the La Roca Village, I said to my friend S: "We can shop guilt free because this is the first proper day of shopping since we arrived in Spain. And it is almost the end of our trip."

S was quick to remind me: "What about the bag at the Loewe store in Valencia?"

VISITING THE LOEWE STORE IN VALENCIA

Yes, in Valencia a few days ago, we visited the Loewe store in the center of the old town after a nice paella lunch.

None of us were planning to get anything, but our guide had suggested seeing the Loewe store as it was designed by celebrity interior designer Peter Marino.

THE LOEWE AMAZONA BAG

So we visited Loewe, and almost immediately, my eye fell on a beautiful display of Amazona bags.

My close friends all know that I am partial to only two kinds of bags, and I have never looked at another bag ever since.

But this Amazona bag was beautiful.

So perfect for a Travelife, I thought.

MY LUCKY DAY

And maybe it was my lucky day.

But the Travel Companion said to me: "Pick one of those as an advanced birthday gift."

So I picked a beautiful black Amazona bag with silver hardware, with surprising spaciousness. But as this was a gift, I did not think it counted as real shopping.

THE EASY AND LUXE WAY

Me and my Amazona bag from Loewe, on the way to the La Roca Village in Barcelona

For that day at the La Roca Village in Barcelona, we hired a car to take us to the outlet and wait for us.

There is a free shuttle that goes from Barcelona to the La Roca Village as well, but we decided to do the stylish and comfortable door-to-door route via a private car.

Besides, my two friends were anticipating major shopping already, so a car was a more sensible choice.

When we got to La Roca, a VIP shopping experience awaited.

We began the morning with wonderful pink champagne at the VIP lounge, and we were also given a VIP shopping discount card.

This was incredibly handy as it gave us additional discounts of 10% on almost everything.

What a dangerous combination pink champagne on a hot day and a VIP shopping discount card can be, at the La Roca Village in Barcelona, living a Travelife.
