Best of a Travelife 2013: Afternoon tea with 30 ambassadors at TWG Tea in Resorts World

As 2014 approaches, we look back on the amazing year that was and remember the best of 12 months of truly wonderful travels and fabulous adventures.

Thank you for following us on our never-ending, and never-endingly eventful Travelife.

THE BEST AFTERNOON TEA FOR 2013
WAS THE TRAVELIFE TWG TEA LUNCHEON
WITH 30 AMBASSADORS

In August, I decided to host a special Travelife luncheon party for some good friends in Manila, including 30 ambassadors and their spouses.

I also invited several hotel general managers and airline country managers.

Having a laugh with
the Ambassadors of Switzerland and the Netherlands.
Behind them are the Ambassadors of Germany and Turkey.

There was really no particular occasion.

I just thought it would be a good idea to invite everyone to the beautiful TWG Tea Salon at Resorts World, to talk about Travel and Life over a lunch paired with tea.

The Ambassador of Israel and Madame enjoy a cup of tea.
Opposite them is the newly-arrived Ambassador of Italy and Madame of Netherlands.

I was really touched that so many ambassadors and their wives made time to accept my invitation for A Travelife around the World with Tea luncheon at the TWG Salon.

It was practically a United Nations at the TWG Salon that day in August, and I personally enjoyed seeing everyone.

A TRAVELIFE AROUND THE WORLD WITH TWG TEA

The TWG Tea Salon at Resorts World has hundreds of wonderful teas -- all of them simply perfect accompaniments for a never-endingly eventful Travelife.

Many of them have such enticing names like “Weekend in Moscow” or “Weekend in Istanbul.

The TWG Salon at Resorts World, which is the largest TWG salon in the world,
was full of VIPs for the Travelife lunch today.

And, boy, wouldn't we all want to be weekending in Moscow?

Or weekending in Istanbul?

OTHER EXOTIC DESTINATIONS

TWG Tea also offers teas from pretty exotic destinations like the Cederburg Mountains of South Africa, the hills around Mandalay in Myanmar, and Shizuoka Prefecture of Japan.

Ambassador and Madame of Indonesia

When I first walked into the TWG Tea Salon in Resorts World, I thought to myself: "What a perfect setting for a Travelife lunch."

I thought this from the outset because of the variety of teas on offer and the beautiful atmosphere of this particular TWG Tea Salon.

A NICE TRIP SOMEWHERE, EVEN FOR A FEW HOURS

Whenever I’m in this particular TWG outlet, I always feel as if I’ve gone on a trip, even just for several hours.

So, as far as I was concerned, the combination of this special atmosphere and TWG’s repertoire of teas was perfect: we could literally Travelife around the world with tea.

And this is exactly what happened.

A THREE-COURSE LUNCH PAIRING WITH TWG TEA

First, I created a three-course lunch consisting of TWG Tea Salon favorites: seafood chowder to start.

Then we had a choice of lamb or the TWG salad as a main course, followed either by a chocolate tart or a poached pear for dessert.

Both dessert choices were accompanied by TWG’s famous and delicious ice creams.

Each course was paired with a delightful pot of tea, and we’d prepared an assortment of teas for guests to choose from.

I think everyone had fun choosing teas and remembering places associated with teas that had such lovely names as Weekend in MarrakechWeekend in IstanbulWeekend in St. Tropez or Weekend in Moscow.

It was truly a relaxing event, even for me as hostess, and a nice opportunity to see so many friends after having been away on a Travelife for so long.

AMBASSADORS SHARE THEIR MEMORIES

Of course, the talk over lunch was about the teas, and the travel memories they evoked.

Ambassador and Madame of Switzerland

Ambassador of South Africa

I requested several close ambassador friends to share their thoughts and comments, including the Ambassadors of AustraliaFranceSouth Africa and Switzerland.

H.E. Gilles Garachon, the Ambassador of France, talked about the Burmese tea he had chosen for lunch.

Meanwhile H.E. Agnes Nyamande-Pitso shared her memories growing up with South Africa’s Rooibos tea – which incidentally is among my favorite teas in the world, as well.

Ambassador of Pakistan
When it was time to say goodbye, many guests told me smilingly: “What a nice and unique idea this was. I’ve never had a meal paired with teas before.

Only in a never-ending, and never-endingly eventful Travelife, of course.

THE MEMORIES OF TEA

I asked some good friends among the ambassadors to share some memories that the teas evoked for them.

The Ambassadors of South AfricaFranceAustralia and Switzerland were kind enough to oblige me with wonderful stories and comments.

Belinda Laker, wife of the Sofitel GM, chooses from our tea selection.
Behind her are the Ambassadors of Austria,
the Czech Republic, Russia and Sri Lanka.

All in all, it was a very unique and very enjoyable event.

I was so glad we organized this luncheon.

HAPPINESS FOR TWO HOURS

Eva Simmons, wife of the Hyatt GM, has a nice chat
with the wife of the German Ambassador

"Let's just enjoy ourselves," I said to everyone at the beginning of lunch, echoing my mantra for everyday living, as well as for a never-endingly eventful Travelife.

Happiness is easy when you don't complicate things and just focus on the present.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: if you just focus on the present, it's possible to be happy for two minutes, two hours, two days, or two weeks.

It's the happily-ever-after part that gets tricky.

A Travelife around the world
with some of the best teas in the world...

So few people really get the total happiness package in one go. But if you are able to collect enough of those two-hour, two-day or two-week happiness experiences, you will end up with a pretty happy life overall.

So stop waiting for the big one to come. Be happy with whatever you can find everyday.

Or at least that's what I try to do, every single day of my never-ending, and never-endingly eventful Travelife.
