Serendipity on the way to Ngorongoro Crater, and a return to Cape Town

The Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania

This morning, on my way to my Pilates session at UP Pilates studio, my Blackberry pinged.

It was an email from a very nice lady in New York, who wanted to know how things were in the Philippines after Typhoon Yolanda.

SERENDIPITY ON THE WAY
TO THE NGORONGORO CRATER

We'd met this lady and her husband entirely by accident while on holiday in Tanzania about three weeks or so ago.

The Travel Companion and I had just landed at the Lake Manyara airstrip and we were on our way to the Ngorongoro Crater Lodge by safari jeep. The drive was going to take 90 minutes, and so we were just having tea and cookies before the ride, when this nice couple walked up to us.

It turns out that they were joining us for the ride.

We thought we'd booked a private transfer to the lodge. But this turned out to be a welcome development as the four of us talked all the way to the lodge. By the time I looked at my watch, we were driving into the lodge and there was a contingent of the Maasai tribe to greet us.

Time certainly flew by.

FROM NEW YORK AND SOUTH AFRICA

This couple live in New York, but the husband is originally from Cape Town.

This fact alone gave us lots to talk about, as we were in South Africa exactly one year ago for a safari and stays in Johannesburg and Cape Town.

Every place we went to on this trip proved a memorable and happy stay, and Cape Town was especially wonderful.

So there was a lot to talk about concerning South Africa and beautiful Cape Town, between the four of us.

SAME TIME LAST YEAR

Coincidentally, I'm on my way back to Cape Town tomorrow night, enroute to Northern Cape for four interesting safaris.

It'll be almost one year to the date that I was last in Cape Town.

Having just returned from Tanzania two weeks ago, I didn't think I would be pysched to return to Africa so soon. I still haven't recovered from jetlag after all.

MUCH NEEDED THINKING TIME

But, for some reason, I really need this break and some time away to think about a lot of things -- including what I want in life, aside from a never-endingly eventful Travelife.

I couldn't have picked a better place for some thinking time either.

Northern Cape is full of unexplored territories. It's the great outdoors with some of the most amazing scenery in the world.

Hope that helps clear my mind.

If not, there's always my stay in Cape Town at the end of the trip to help put things in perspective.

I'm planning to enjoy some of the best scones in the world, get a massage inspired by the rolling sand dunes of Namibia, and pencil in a few intensive hours of pre-holiday shopping.

Hopefully, I can get some thinking time into this, too.
