A Christmas tree lighting ceremony at the Dusit Thani Manila

I started last night at the Dusit Thani Manila and ended it with another wine dinner somewhere in Makati.

At the Dusit Thani Manila, GM Alex Willats and his family presided over the lighting of the hotel Christmas tree right in the middle of the lobby.

I love Christmas traditions, so I try to attend all the Christmas rituals and Christmas concerts around Manila in the run-up to the Big Day.

This tree-lighting ceremony at the Dusit Thani Manila was the very first Christmas event of the year for me.

And then I'm off to South Africa on the weekend for four safari experiences and a bit of shopping. Hopefully, Cape Town will be full of the Christmas spirit as well.

Dusit Thani's tree-lighting ceremony was a very tasteful event, with a candle performance by the hotel staff, followed by a short ballet recital.

Then, after the lighting of the Christmas tree, the Philippine Philarmonic Orchestra took over and began playing a very nice medley of Philippine and western Christmas songs.

The first song was actually a Philippine Christmas carol that I like very much.

It’s not a sad song at all, but a very merry one – and whenever I hear this, I really feel happy.

So you might say this was the first Christmas happiness of the year – and hopefully just the start of many more, in my never-ending, and never-endingly eventful Travelife.

More on last night in my next blog entry...
