Flying out to lunch, and an invitation too good to resist

Just this afternoon, somewhere in the city living a Travelife, I bumped into a very old friend at the end of an event.

I hadn't seen him in a while and we hadn't exchanged messages either.

In fact, the other day, I was just looking at my BBM list and wondering whether we'd been cut off, because the photo he posted as his BBM ID was the same one since June.

MORE OF A TRAVELIFE THAN TRAVELIFE

He's never in Manila, and he's about 10 times worse than me when it comes to traveling.

But he's usually very good at posting updates on his whereabouts, you see, so an update that hasn't been changed since June is very unusual for him.

THE NICE THING ABOUT OLD FRIENDS

And this afternoon, there he was in front of me. He's a very big businessman in this town, but as we're old friends, there's no formality between us.

Apparently he'd just returned from somewhere cool for the summer as well, and he'd cut short his trip to make it to this event that we'd both found ourselves in today.

SUDDENLY FLYING OUT TO LUNCH

Then he asked, almost as soon as we'd said hello: "What are you doing for lunch tomorrow?"

I knew I was doing something, but my schedule was at the office. It's my last week in town before flying out, so I'm busy everyday.

But anyway, I decided to chuck my original plans out the window for an old friend.

I replied: "I must be doing something. But whatever it is, I'm sure I can cancel it."

He said: "Good. If the weather is fine, I'm thinking of flying a couple of people to XXX for lunch. I need to check the weather with the pilot, but if it's good, that's where we'll be having lunch. We'll take off at 11, and we'll be back in Manila by 230 PM."

And that's what lunch will be like tomorrow, in my never-ending, and never-endingly eventful Travelife.
