Nelson Mandela Day, a photo exhibit at the RCBC Plaza, and remembering South Africa

This morning I was at the Yuchengco RCBC Building in Makati very early to attend the opening of a lovely photo exhibit marking Nelson Mandela Day today.

The event was planned by South African Ambassador Agnes Nyamande-Pitso, and it was well-attended by many of her ambassador colleagues.

JAPAN'S BACK ON TRACK

I bumped into Japanese Ambassador Urabe at the event, and we talked about how the Japanese economy is now improving.

We also agreed that Bank of Japan Governor Kuroda, who used to be the head of ADB in Manila, is doing a very good job of steering the economy and the currency.

Many of the ambassadors also came up and said they wished they had joined the recent Travelife to Sri Lanka.

One of the ambassadors stationed in Manila joined our Travelife to Sri Lanka with his family, you see, and he has been telling everyone what a good time he had.

Of course, I was so happy to hear this.

REMEMBERING SOUTH AFRICA

Later, Ambassador Nyamande-Pitso and I walked through the exhibit together, looking at the photos of Nelson Mandela with world leaders and children.

Everytime I see photos of Nelson Mandela, I remember my trip to South Africa last November.

The home of Nelson Mandela in the posh suburb of Houghton had been the very first thing we had seen, you see, on the first morning of our pretty amazing two-week trip to South Africa, living a never-ending, and never-endingly eventful Travelife.
