Our first dinner in France was lovely, simple and absolutely delicious



Our first dinner in France tonight, living a Travelife, was simple and yet very delicious.

It was a Sunday evening and most of the restaurants open on a night like this are the very local places.





For tonight we chose a tasteful but casual restaurant affiliated with a very famous Michelin three-star one.

We're eating in the three-star restaurant in a few days, but tonight was deliberately low-key to take into account jet lag and a lack of real appetite after all the meals enroute from Hong Kong to Paris via Istanbul.

In fact, as it was, I could hardly keep awake at 7 PM here, even as I'd had a proper night's rest on board Turkish Airlines.

But the restaurant we ate in tonight was so summery and lovely that I forced myself to stay up an extra two hours and have a meal.

WHAT A LOVELY ATMOSPHERE CAN DO



Fortunately, the nice atmosphere in the restaurant woke me up. And by the time the menus were handed to us, I was ready to eat a decent meal.

I usually don't have a big serving of foie gras as a starter for dinner. But here in France, I suddenly felt like doing so. Perhaps this is because the produce here is so good.

FOIE GRAS TO START



So I had a thick and excellent slab of warm foie gras, which I ate with home-made bread full of seeds and texture. The contrast between the rough bread and the silky foie gras was simply lovely.

Again, un-fussy and traditional cooking, but very good and enjoyable food.

A MAIN COURSE OF CHICKEN WITH MUSTARD



For a main, I chose chicken with a hefty dose of moutarde l'ancienne on it. Again, I usually don't order chicken for dinner unless a restaurant is specifically known for chicken. But today, I just felt like it.

My main course came in the form of two big slabs of white meat.

Again, the chances of having good white meat chicken that is not dry or tough is so slim, but here it was juicy and tender. Chicken in France is especially good, and the cooking of the chef at this restaurant was very compatible.

We enjoyed this very much, as the first dinner in just another amazing journey in my never-ending, and never-endingly eventful Travelife.
