Buffet galore in Manila: Dusit revives its Sunday Family Crossover Brunch 2013

Some cities in the world are buffet heaven. For me, Dubai and Manila are among them.

Locals in these cities just love socializing, eating and lingering over a very long meal -- usually lunch.

FOOD'S ALL GREAT,
BUT THE DAYS ARE DIFFERENT

In Dubai, brunch day is Friday.

But in Manila, it's usually Sunday, and an entire day can be worked around a lunch buffet as the major event of the day.

REVIVAL OF A POPULAR BRUNCH CONCEPT

Earlier this month, the Dusit Thani Manila revived its very popular Sunday Family Crossover brunch.

Everyone used to love this because of its unique concept: all the restaurants at the Dusit Thani were open for buffet, and you signed up for the crossover brunch at one restaurant and got your table there; but you were free to walk up and down and visit every restaurant for a bit of everything.

So you could have antipasti at the Italian restaurant Tosca, sushi and sashimi at the Japanese restaurant Benjarong, green curry and pad thai at the Thai restaurant Benjarong, and then noodles and desserts at Basix.

This very interesting concept has just been revived by the Dusit Thani Manila, but with some changes.

JAPANESE & THAI FOOD AT UMU

That's the Thai food station set up at UMU

The Japanese restaurant UMU serves its Japanese food buffet, but now it also has several Thai food stations.

Benjarong's Thai buffet stations have been set up here instead so that buffet diners don't have to go up and down the stairs anymore.

DUSIT THANI IS NOW BUFFET AND A LA CARTE
FOR SUNDAY LUNCH

Meanwhile, Benjarong operates as an a la carte restaurant for those who don't wish to have the buffet.

Before, you either had to have the Sunday buffet at Dusit, or you had to go elsewhere if you didn't wish to have the buffet.

The Thai chef now makes pad thai at UMU
for the Sunday Family Crossover Buffet

At least now, diners have both the buffet and a la carte options. Benjarong is the best Thai restaurant in Manila, in my opinion, by the way.

ALL THE BUFFET STATIONS ON ONE FLOOR

topped with ice cream, to all buffet diners who wanted some...

Meanwhile, Tosca's Italian buffet has been merged with Basix, Dusit's all-day dining restaurant.

This means that all the restaurant buffet stalls are now concentrated on the ground floor for more convenience.

GREAT QUALITY BUFFET FOOD

4) Meanwhile, the quality of the food has gotten even better with this revived 2013 Crossover Family Brunch.

The delicious Thai salad station

There was an entire roasted pig in Basix, great teppanyaki in UMU, and a very comprehensive Thai salad bar in UMU as well.

There was even a specialized Dusit ice cream cart in the lobby for the kids.

Everything was festive, fun, and happy. And delicious.

I'm not really a big fan of buffet meals, in general; but this was one I really enjoyed, in my never-ending, and never-endingly eventful Travelife.
