Today I had two lunches, both involving tea. At the first lunch, I had green tea. And at this second lunch, I had about five different teas.
But I can only blog about the second lunch, for some reason, so let me tell you about this second lunch at the TWG Salon in Greenbelt 5.
Obviously, with two lunches in one day, the second lunch needed to start pretty late. So it was almost 2 PM when we sat down to lunch at TWG, and it was 4 PM when we left.
A GREAT SUCCESS STORY
TWG Tea is a luxury tea brand established in Singapore in 2007. What a success story that is, don't you think?
They've only been in business for five years, and yet they've been the most famous upscale tea brand in Singapore for years now.
And now they're branching out internationally. Apart from the Manila branch at Greenbelt 5 (and four more to open soon elsewhere, including one at Resorts World next month), they have outlets in London and a couple of other major capitals.
TWG just opened in Manila last month but already it's become a very popular place for lunch and tea. It was completely full today.
AN 8-COURSE LUNCH
Well, I'm glad I didn't have breakfast today, because I had the equivalent of an eight-course lunch today. Three courses for lunch #1, and then five courses with five pots of tea for lunch #2. Talk about a food and tea pairing.
COURSE# 1 IS AFTERNOON TEA
For nourishment, we began with afternoon tea trays. Yes, I know it sounds weird to start this way, although it really was appropriate considering the time; but I just wanted to have scones and tea at the beginning.
We had this with TWG's Silver Moon, which is a blend of sencha green tea with flavors of strawberries and vanilla. It was sweet and delightful.

COD AND EGGS BENEDICT
FOR COURSES #2 and 3
For the second and third courses, we ordered a cod dish and the eggs benedict. Again, you must think it's very odd to have eggs benedict at 3 PM -- especially if you know what I actually had for lunch #1 -- but I just happen to like eggs benedict, and I have it all the time.
The last time I was in Singapore, I also ordered this at the TWG Salon in Marina Bay Sands, and it was absolutely delicious. And if you've been following this blog, you'll know that I've just come from 14 mornings of eggs benedict in South Africa.
We had this with TWG's White Desire, a light, flowery blend from Fujian, China that had lemon in it -- so it was very perfect with fish, and it also helped cut some of the richness of the eggs benedict.

WAGYU AND FRENCH FRIES WITH MATCHA
For the fourth course, we had the wagyu burger. At TWG, this comes with Emmenthal cheese and french fries that are dusted with matcha (Japanese powdered green tea). We ordered this medium rare so it arrived perfect and juicy.
ROOIBOS TEA WITH DESSERT
Dessert was a lovely and very rich chocolate fondant which I had with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream. I have to tell you this was my second ice cream at lunch as well, as I'd already had a scoop of ice cream at lunch #1.
We had this with a pot of hot Rooibos tea from South Africa and also glasses of iced Rooibos tea. Both were very nice, and these made me remember my recent trip. I was constantly drinking Rooibos tea on the trip, and I think I brought back at least 2 kgs of Rooibos tea.
THOUSANDS OF TEAS
TWG Tea has over 1000+ tea varieties and blends (and they add new blends each year!), and over 450 are available in store. One tea I didn't have time to sample -- it was 4 PM after all, and I needed to get back to work -- is the new Earl Grey tea with chocolate.
This looked so intriguing and it certainly smelled heavenly. So I hope I'll be back soon for another long lunch -- or maybe a second lunch in one day again -- in my never-ending, and never-endingly eventful Travelife.
