PHRS Boracay Beach Volleyball Players to Wear Shirts Out of Recycled Bottles

The Philippine Hotel Reservations Service (PHRS) is organizing the much-awaited second season of the PHRS Boracay Beach Volleyball Open (BBVO) together with Revolve, the country’s first and only manufacturer of sports apparel made from recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles.

Players and participants of the event will be wearing Revolve shirts in promotion of sustainable tourism. According to top mountaineer Regidor “Regie” Pablo, founder of Revolve, the country’s first and only apparel company that uses environment-friendly material for its clothing line, recycled PET shirts are now very popular in many countries.

DOING OUR PART FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

Even well-known apparel brands are now using materials made out of recycled PET bottles. The plastic bottles are grinded into flakes and they undergo a procedure called “polymerization” where the flakes become chips and then filament yarn.

Once turned into filament yarn, they are then weaved to achieve the desired fabric texture and dyed according to color requirements.

The largest beach volleyball event in the country which will take place in the world-famous beach of Boracay on November 16 – 18, 2012. This is being endorsed by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), Progressive Volleyball Center (PVC), Philippine Beach Volleyball Association (PBVA) and the Province of Aklan.

PHRS wishes to invite everyone to support their aim to promote a healthy way of life through beach sports with the least environmental impact on the island.
