Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra cut the ribbon herself on gala night and then she stayed on to watch the cultural performance and the glamorous fashion show afterwards.
We're big fans of this lady with brains and lots of style, so we were certainly happy that we arrived early enough to get a good glimpse of the Prime Minister Shinawatra before she was surrounded by the crowds.
The gala opening show itself was certainly one for the books, even in our never-endingly eventful Travelife. We're at museums and all kinds of shows all the time, but the opening show of the jewelry fair certainly dazzled us beyond words.
GOLD IS IN THE AIR
First, the stage suddenly literally filled with gold as performers appeared and began dancing in glittering traditional and contemporary Thai costumes.
Then, beautiful women and not a few good-looking men appeared and walked down the runway wearing some pretty hefty jewelry pieces. Who would've thought that skilled artisans could create such amazing works of art for women to wear around their necks?
Both programs were wonderful and even now we're still trying to decide which we liked more -- gems or culture. Tough choice. But good night for now, from one of my favorite places in the world.
