Congratulations, Sweet Bella

This came in the mail...

When I got home last night, there was a beautiful shocking pink box waiting in my fridge. It was a gift from Sweet Bella Proprietor and patisserie chef par excellence Christina "Tintin" Santiago Rivera, and this served as my invitation to Sweet Bella's first-year anniversary party tonight. Tintin really knows how to throw a great party, and it starts with the delectable invitation.

THE BEST CAKES IN TOWN

Sweet Bella makes some of the best cakes in town. Whenever I have a dinner at home, and especially one where I've invited the kind of guests who've eaten in some of the best places in the world, I order cakes from them. Recently, for instance, I had the general manager of one of the Philippines' top luxury hotels over and I'd served Sweet Bella's strawberry shortcake. It was received with a hundred oohs and aahs by everyone, including this general manager.

Strawberry Charlotte

We also served Sweet Bella's famous Strawberry Charlotte to our table of ambassadors during our Christmas party, and included here were the ambassadors of the United States, South Africa, Indonesia, India and Switzerland. Everyone just loved Tintin Rivera's Strawberry Charlotte.

TIMELY CRAVINGS

Meanwhile, the lovely Sweet Bella Café itself in Burgos Circle is more than just appealing interiors and tempting treats, with highlights of pink palette walls and velvet chairs. First of all, the ground floor reminds me of a very high-end French pastry shop or even a corner of Fauchon in Paris. So it's always a pleasure to visit.

And upstairs, Sweet Bella offers all-day dining with delectable dishes and scrumptious cakes. Leave it to them to concoct a tasty menu of their most popular dishes: hearty French onion soup; a sampling of signature pastas like spaghetti amatriciana, shrimp and asparagus penne carbonara, or linguini quattro fungi; and brick oven-baked pizzas and assorted salads with original dressings.

ALL-DAY BREAKFASTS

Breakfasts are also served hot and fresh all day at Sweet Bella. They've got an excellent eggs benedict, plus an assortment of omelettes created with ham and cheese, mushroom, steak or pesto, and a French continental breakfast of flavored jams and croissants. Sweet Bella also serves a great Filipino breakfast of sardines, tapa, and longganisa served with garlic rice.

GREAT MERIENDA FARE

They're open all day so you can also enjoy lighter fare for merienda. They've got great sandwich selections like croque-monsieur, the classic chicken sandwich, Philly cheese steak, a salmon BLT, and their famously sumptuous Café Monster Burger. Or just have a gourmet ensaymada with a cup of Nespresso coffee. And don’t forget to sample Sweet Bella’s Belgian hot chocolate and French macarons, which are supposed to be the best in town.

My favorite monster burger
